I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions concerning performance chips for HP and MPG. I see many out there, but I'd like to ask folks who is getting the best results with what mods.... can anyone help?

When it comes to performance chips there is nothing that will work for the Tacoma engines. If you "search" you will find that will be your answer. The Tacoma engine is pretty much tuned out to the max it can get.

There are many threads right now telling you how to get better mileage. But really, what it comes down to is how you drive.

If you're putting many freeway/highway miles on and you don't mind slowing down, it does certainly help the MPG to stay below 2000RPM.

Also, try and use the link below to find gas stations in your area that sells pure gasoline and not blended Ethanol gas. Unblended, pure gas, will also give you a boost in MPG.

    http://pure-gas.org/

It's unfortunate Toyota doesn't develop a TDI diesel similar to the one Volkswagen uses in some of their cars.

The only "chip" that can work with our tacomas is unichip since they have the plug in's for just about all the years.

The other way to do this is with an aftermarket EMS (engine management system) EX: X-1 or UCON (URD)

They both have a plus and minus, there are many threads about this topic on both of the products

i would just use URD, they make great quality products and they will help their customers. They only deal with toyota, so you don't have to worry if this chevy program will work with toyota  i have their parts on my truck and love the quality. Plus you get a cool sticker. thats like an extra 10hp alone

the way toyota designed the EMS in our trucks cancels out any way to use a chip unless you buy a piggy back system like unichip which IMO is junk or the UCON...
actually for the price of the unichip a set of doug thorley long tubes would open things up much better than the crappy unichip...
many issues with the unichip dont waste your money...
requires special software to adjust the tuning and most of the tunes are crappy...
the UCON from URD is your best bet, its a chunk of cash but the service and features that come with it are more then enough reason to favor it...

I drive it like a Paccar MX with an Eaton Fuller 13 speed (shifts at about 1600.... ok, so maybe a little higher with the gas engine) and I drive about 57 on long trips.... it's cool. I mean, unless I want to be ridiculous. In the meantime, I'll look at filters and whatnot..... Thanks guys...

Not trying to be a dick but these trucks have been around for a long time now and pretty much all questions have been answered 414 times. The forum has a good search function and database compared to other sites. You get answers quick.
