I'm thinking about installing a performance chip in my 2011 with 4.0 and V6. With gas prices going up I'm looking for more MPG. How about Cold Air Intake. Truck is close to 80K miles and still going strong. Thanks in advance.

    Forget about a “chip”.
    Get a real tune.

As for the cold air intake. Once you buy it ,throw directly in the trash. Or better yet, don’t buy one. They don’t help.

I’d suggest getting with @tonered those guys know what they are doing when it comes to tuning.

The vast majority of those "performance/fuel economy" "chips" are nothing more than a box with blinking lights, the only way to modify engine/transmission parameters is with a tune.
You can possibly pick up 1 maybe 2 MPG depending on driving conditions and have slightly better performance with a proper tune but that's about all you can expect, there is no magic bullet to increase fuel economy dramatically other than keeping your truck maintained and not carrying a bunch of heavy stuff around.

I've managed over 23 mpg on two tanks on trips since I've owned my Tacoma and I can tell you it is your speed. Conditions for both were, flat terrain, little wind and it was behind me, temps were in the 70* ish range, and my speed was at 65 mph or less. The speed limit was 55 to 60 mph and know one does the 55 mph, not even the law enforcement on those roads. I'm one of those that will add 5 to 7 mph knowing my speedo needle is about 3 to 4 mph off on the low side.
I have a better chance of reaching 11, 12, or 13 mpg multiple times in the winter than reaching 23 mpg.
It's a 4x4 and I expected low mpg when I bought it. Yes, I do wish it was better.
Once my brother reached 29.?? on one trip to Lake of the Woods in January in his 2019 Silverado crew cab, 4x4, and with the 5.3 v8. He knew we were going to get there a little early before the restaurant opened up so on one long stretch of road he set the cruise control at 40 mph. He said he'll never reset it.

The above is what is possible.

Of note in there, is what can be gained simply by removing the restriction of the OE filter (w/ intake intact). While intakes are not a popular modification, no one has taken the time to dyno them to validate the claims they do nothing but make noise. We have, and while they don't produce "20hp" or any significant difference in the way the truck "feels". They do in fact improve performance over a OE intake/filter combination. If your goal is to make more power, it's going to have to be done incrementally and with solid parts combinations in conjunction with a proper tune.

What I will agree with, is the cost to benefit ratio is rather slim and if that is a factor for you, a high flow dry filter for the OE airbox will help for a much lower price point.
