Thinking about getting the OVtune done on my Tacoma this summer . For those who have had a tune done for a while any long term positives or negatives you feel like sharing?

-Did it affect your warranty or did the Dealership even notice you had a tuine done when you needed service?
-Gas Mileage improvements or less overall highway/intown mileage?
-Any concerns about possibly shortening the life of your truck or causing engine/transmission issues long term since we are not using a stock tune?

anything else you might want to say about it :D

Got my tune at 13k and have 44k now. Smooth as fuck. No trouble and dealer doesn't care a bit.

    No concerns.

10K miles on the KDMax Pro tune for my generation 3 truck. The one single thing that made me keep this truck. Made a world of difference in the shifting and enjoyment of reasonably expected service. Smoothed it out and eliminated constant seeking. $400 for the tune.

2017 is out of warranty or do you have extended? Tuned since 16k(Feb 2019), currently close to 70k.
Had oil changes at dealerships till lockdown.
Techs probably suspect the tune, but they need to hook a techstream to see the checksum #. Hooking up techstream is billable item and requires your signature.
Tires affect mpg more than tune. Some tunes improve mileage.
No drivetrain issues. Recent tunes are safe and improved some areas like knocking and 87 octane performance, but you need to know what your truck is doing currently so you can compare.

I have the platinum 7 year/200,000km warranty . I still have about 45,000km left on it. i don't anymore horsepower , not like i would complain about a bit more giddy up either though, but the gear searching has always drove me crazy. Im on the highway most days for work.

Two years and 25,000 miles in on the KD max tune and haven’t had any issues. It stopped the truck from gear hunting and shimmying at about 32 miles an hour, dealer doesn’t pick up on it, fuel mileage improved and seems to have stayed that way. The tune eliminated the thing that pissed me off about the truck and I have no regrets.

I've had my 2021 tuned since October 2021 and 10k miles. I'm now at 34k miles and have had no issues. I've only been to the dealer for toyota care and dealer never said anything.

There’s a whole tune section, you’ll find there’s tons of happy folks.

This is exactly how I feel. I had less than 2K miles on my truck when I got my tune, and before I got the tune, I'd yell at it, "come on, come on" when it hit a lull between 30-40 MPH. I told my local tuner, Stormpeacock, its a different truck ! And I get the same or a little better mileage, maybe because I can drive it normally rather than giving more gas to compensate to the lack of power in some bands.

As I have said before, a tune definitely leaves a digital footprint, there is no getting around this fact. Maybe they can't see it as they aren't looking for it, but its there. And I did hear that states and municipalities that require an annual emissions test are working on a way to detect if the vehicle's ECU has been mucked with. If it has, you fail the emissions test. I personally think the days of "these tunes are undetectable" are coming to an end.

This has been a topic of discussion for actual years. A dealer is not able to detect a tune unless they are told about it or the calibration ID name is different than a stock calibration ID name.

That's only the thing they can easily test for today.

At it's very simplest all Toyota has to do is allow the techs to see the stock tables and compare those against what's in the truck.

    This!
I have a 17, too. I'm also looking at about 50k on my tune, with an odometer hitting almost 75k. I have a lift with 33s, so I can't speak to long term mileage. My mileage really didn't change much after getting the tune (before my lift). The drivability of the truck after the tune is an incredible improvement, like having a new truck.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
91 Octane OVTune at 40,000 miles. At 109,000 now. No issues. Can't speak to fuel economy impacts as I have winch, bumpers, skids, sliders, lift, and 33s on it. Few times at dealer for warranty or recall work had no issues with any of it.

I lost 3 highway mpg (18.5 to 15.5) going from OVTune to KDMax. Regret it and want to go back, just don’t have the time or energy to get updated ECU files.

Had the KDMax for about 15k miles; no issues and the dealer never said anything. Ive had the OTT for about 10k; difference is night and day and only regret is i shouldve gotten it sooner. MPGs? What MPGs  my thing is if you want it you gotta pay to play and so far I look at how much gas I put in the truck and still smile when I drive
