    First post!

Unfortunately it isn't a happy one.

Earlier this week I was lying in bed around midnight, when I heard a 'tat! tat! tat!' and a car speeding away. I assumed somebody was paintballing my house or the neighbors, so I checked my windows and house exterior. Everything appeared fine, and I thought nothing else of it and went to sleep. Then today, I notice a ding. And another. And another. Looks like somebody shot it with a pellet gun or something. Once on the driver's door, once on the driver's side passenger door, and once near the gas cap. It looks beyond the 'paintless dent removal' or whatever I got as part of my package at the dealer. So I'm wondering if anybody knows a ballpark figure of what these might cost to fix? Any other advice (besides moving to the middle of nowhere)? I'd hate to have to file an insurance claim, but I'm worried because each is on a different panel. It's new, a 2015, so I'd hate to just leave the damage there. What's also heartbreaking is that I have a 3 car garage, but the damn thing isn't quite deep enough to fit a DCLB inside!

Sorry, man. That really blows. Hope you filed a police report in case they catch the little bastards! Can't help with questions. Good luck.

on a new truck - maybe let insurance handle it. you'll be shocked at how expensive it is to repair those little holes.

if you just can't bring yourself to file a claim, for cash you can probably get a body shop to bondo, sand, and spot paint the individual locations.

But that wouldn't be the approach I'd take if I was planning on keeping the truck a long time.

Yep, agreed about insurance taking care of it. I would not be surprised if the body shop needs to replace entire panels. I had a door ding that I thought could be fixed quick and easy, not so.

You should take your truck offroading on some really bullshit roads until those dents are the least of your cosmetic worries. Then you can breath a sigh of relief and have a beer in your above ground pool.

My truck looks really nice from far away.

If I had an above ground pool they probably would have shot a leak in it

Man that sucks especially on a new truck. I'd contact the police so that you have a police report to hand to the insurance company. You are probably looking at a grand if the body shop has to to paint three separate panels.

You should check up on the following: 1. The husband of the woman you are sleeping with 2. The old boyfriend of the girl you are sleeping with 3. The old boyfriend of the girl your son is sleeping with 4. To be gender neutral-change all partners to male

thats why we pay for insurance. use it! will be a comp claim anyway, shouldn't hurt you (unless you've filed multiple comp claims then the company may want to non-renew you or something)

yup on the police report...do you have some questionable friends? stuff like this is usually not random, you probably know the perp....anyway, fixing will be expensive unless you go the cheap bondo/blend route....get the police report, contact your insurance...that is what you have insurance for...

    Good luck with the repairs...

A couple years ago we had a car load of delinquents driving around throwing river rocks through the windows of cars parked on the street. An older lady down the street has a 69' Firebird. They hit the back window and the rock went through, bounced off something inside and hit the front window, cracking it badly. The car was in terrible shape before but she made it worse by taping plastic over the broken back window and leaving it like that. Over time the plastic has loosened/degraded and rain water gets in. I have no doubt that thing is rusted beyond salvage at this point. I've talked to her multiple times about it but she just doesn't think it's an issue. She is banking on the car being worth a shit load of money and she can cash in when she retires. I feel bad for her.

File a police report. They may catch these idiots (ours were caught). File a claim with your insurance, I think this is likely to be a costly repair.

WTF is happening in Albuquerque!?!? I'm from there and trying to get home but I'm always hearing about crazy stuff happening there. At least you didn't go outside and see what was going on and end up shot and killed by some punk teenage kid like that poor guy a couple months ago.

I bought my Tacoma new in September 2005 while on a two week leave from an Iraq deployment. My wife had the truck when I left and when I got back 5 months later, there was a ding that looked just like yours over the driver's side rear fender. I just put touch up paint and lived with it. Looking at it now, a pellet makes sense. I could never figure out what caused the ding. Sorry to hear about what happened to your truck. It sucks that low-life people have no respect for other people's property.

Yeah man, people are just crazy. It's tough to watch the local news, all you hear about is shootings, murders, scandals, etc. But the media sensationalizes everything, so who knows. Are things really that bad? I don't know, but the police department is always on the news too, and I think the bad guys think they're a joke and have no fear of getting caught or facing any consequences. It was probably just a group of teenagers on a late night joy ride the first night of school. The next day, before I noticed the dings, I could have sworn my neighbor's back window in his F150 was gone and he was sweeping something up in the driveway. Maybe it was a coincidence, or maybe he was hit too that same night? Tried asking about it but haven't got ahold of him. I did file a police report online, haven't heard anything though, has yet to be reviewed.
