I have a 2023 DC LB TRD OR and i was looking at the Pelican BX 135 Cargo Case to throw in the bed. It fits my needs.

I have a Bakflip MX4 tonneau, which drops the factory bed rails down an inch or so. I’m concerned the Pelican mounting system may not have enough play to connect to the Pelican storage box during install.

anybody have a setup like this?

^this. Why I went with the Lomax and not the Bak.

Sorry no. The Lomax cover uses the rails as is. So accessories fit as factory location is still intact.

If its going under the Bakflip, why not secure it to the rings on the bed sides? Or add some D rings to the bolts on the floor? and secure it that way?

I may do that. I have a slick setup for adding infinite tie downs along the length of the bed. I’ll post a photo when I install it. Maybe later today. I think the Pelican brackets are going to work. Because the wheel wells on 6ft bed aren’t up against the cab. So even though my factory rails are 1in lower because of the Bakflip there should still be enough play in the pelican mounting mechanism.

If you are going for those brackets, it looks like they are adjustable.

Not sure what you’re using it for, but Harbor Freight has their own line of Apache Cases which are Pelican dupes. I have a few of them and they’re great quality and the savings are excellent.

A plano sportsman case and a NRS strap are infinitely cheaper and can be mounted in different configurations.

Those are more like the 17xx series, not the "cargo" ones they make for the overland sector. I agree they're good cases for the money though.

I looked at the HF stuff, Rigid boxes, all sorts of rotomolded waterproof cases. None of them met the requirements I was looking for. I do use those boxes to store gear though. Just not to travel with.

Action packer and cheap Contico I picked up at Wal Mart 25 years ago. They're still in use and I haven't broken a single one yet.

My camping gear might get rained and/or snowed on once in a while. They're not going to a war zone populated by disgruntled baggage handlers or anything.

funny enough, my two action packers are thrown in the truck as much as my pelicans and treated to equal if not worse treatment.

My action packer holds the dog food. It goes everywhere except brown bear territory. For those trips I transfer the kibble to my quicklime barrel. Not that it's tougher or anything, but my barrel has a food grade gasket that keeps a better lid on the smells. It's enough that it audibly sucks air when opening after an altitude or temperature change. The contico boxes on the other hand could be curb stomped by a silverback and not show a scratch.

Functional I agree. Clean streamlined looking not so much. Not knocking it but I was after something a little cleaner.

I use a Rubbermaid action packer and it has worked well for me. It’s light but very sturdy. IMG_0078.jpgIMG_0079.jpg
