Need help regarding pcv valve replacement on how to do it. Any torque values ? Don't want to overtighten it. Do I have to apply blue threadlocker ? Any videos specific for our 3rd gen ?
Just want to prevent timing cover leaks from clogged pcv valve . Tnx

you are a wise man. lot of people don't know that a clogged PCV valve can cause a oil leak due to backed up pressure in the block. had that issue with a old jeep once.

Yup. After reading some folks with slightly high mileage tacomas here having timing valve cover leaks , I’m thinking a clogged or partially clogged Pcv valve may have something to with the leak . Just a prevention on my part. Almost 70t miles no leaks yet .

These can also be removed once a year and cleaned out with throttle body clean. Check for the "rattle". Rattle is good, no rattle bad.

Here's a pic of a 68000 miles pcv valve . Looks like new . Since I bought a new one, I installed the new and will keep this as spare.

Is this an easy thing to do/check?

It’s a PITA at least for me. Got frustrated . I can loosen it no problem but can’t take it off completely. The long socket interferes with the black plastic . so I just went ahead and went to Toyota. 84$ job for a 9$part. Is it worth it? For me it is . My frustration is sure more than the dollar spent for the dealer to do it ha ha. Also Peace of mind that Pcv is not clogged . I’m thinking the clogged Pcv contributed to the timing cover leaks in slightly high mileage tacomas .

Might as well include the installation instructions then; you have good searchable title.

It can be done without removing anything if you use a LONG extension and a wobble adapter, but it is a minor pain in the butt due to its location.

That’s what I did and it’s so frustrating . My extended socket won’t come off it got lodged on the black cover behind . I gave up haha and drove it to Toyota .
After reading @splitbolt attachment, I could have done it. I was adamant on removing hoses I’m not familiar with.

bringing this back to the top with two questions i hope someone can help with. TIA.

    1. since i am viewing the PCV valve from above, are the threads the normal righty tighty, lefty loosy? so to loosen it i would turn it toward the firewall, correct?

    2. i have a few torque wrenches, sockets, etc., and would like to torque it to the required spec however, it doesn't seem like i can fit a socket and torque wrench in there. is there a special tool that is better suited for torquing the PVC valve?
