My engine light has been on for a couple months now, put the code reader on is giving me an evap system leak code. Just changed my pcv valve, was stuck open. Would this cause the code?

No. There is a very small chance it’s the gas cap.
Maybe the EVAP purge valve, then would line to from evap pump or the tank.
EVAP codes can be hard to trace.
