I used to Own a Chevy before I went to the yota side. Before I sold it I was looking into pcm tunes. There was a guy who you could send off you pcm or buy one already tuned for performance. So my million dollar question is... can anybody do this for a first gen Tacoma? Is it possible.

If so it is really very well hidden since it is a Federal crime .

One would have to completely redesign the ECM then have some one build it then either make one for every ECM part # or give people the plugs and pin outs to repin things to the harness they have.

I'm not sure how illegal it is so I won't comment on that. But it does seem like changing the "factory" tune will alter emissions, which in areas that require it would make it possibly fail.

https://www.bullydog.com/ makes tuners for many vehicles and a few Toyotas as well. However I have not seen any as of yet for the 1st Gen. I suspect it's due to the "less computerized" facet of how they were made, or just sheer pin-out detail and trying to figure it out. Plus it's been over 16 years since they were made, no money in creating one now.
