    Hi,

I just bought a Pastime slide in camper. Does anyone have one of these or know anyone with one? I'm curious about how their trucks handle it and if they have done anything to the suspension? How the mpg was affected? Really anything at all about them.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan

    Hey Dan!

I am about to purchase a 1997 Pastime 700fds camper. I know that I will probably need to build some sort of base to get it above my cab, but thats about it. Hoping you can let me know how it's been going for you!

Hi, Mine fits great. So far its been a good rig. I lost 2-3 mpg which is to be expected but I'm happy I don't have to pop up my camper any more. Suspension wise I've only put timbrens on so far. I think you're going to be happy.

I'm not sure where to ask this, but I have been looking several times per day, every day, for more than a year and a half to find a small camper (possibly Pastime) for my 2004 Tacoma. I need to buy a used one, we cannot even afford anything new at all, ever. Today one sold on Facebook Marketplace that I thought I was going to get, the seller thought that the first person who contacted him was not going to buy it, apparently he did buy it, ( was told I was second in line if he didn't buy it), then the guy told me later that after the guy bought it, he got another 25 replies wanting to buy it. I am now at the point of just totally giving up on ever getting one. We don't have a whole lot of money, and these things for ten to twenty thousand dollars are not even a remote possibility for us at all, ever. ....after looking on every site I can think of several times per day, for over a year and a half, at this point I guess I will have to forget about ever hoping to camping again the rest of my life.

Well that escalated quickly. Why not just buy a tent? Plenty of people camp using tents still....

We have a tent. We have been tent camping for 50 plus years. We are not young anymore and have mobility issues and make tent camping not an option at all anymore.

Firestone RideRite airbags will help hold the weight and allow fine tuning for great handling with the additional weight. Good luck with your rig! Post a pic when you get a chance

    All stock, baby!
Rick, don't throw in the towel just yet. You may be able to find some accommodation until you locate a camper of your own.

There are sites like RVShare that can connect you with local people who rent out their RV/Camper. There are some smartphone apps like Outdoorsy, RVezy, etc. that do the same thing. One of these might allow you to find a tolerably priced option to get out for a trip.

If you see a camper that looks like it would fit your truck sitting on someones side yard, you could write them a note and let them know you might be interested in buying it. I'd say "put a note in their mailbox" but since that would violate federal law, I'll suggest mailing it instead. Finding some way to ask someone if they want to sell makes you, at least for a short time, the only buyer and you might get a deal that way without all the competition.

It's a crazy market out there right now so as you've found, deals are few and far between. Good luck in your search.
