    Hello!
Yesterday when I went to lock my 21 Taco from the inside with the passenger door open and I heard this odd noise. I’ve attached a video below of the odd sound it makes when I lock it, it went away yesterday, was fine earlier today, and when I went to lock it 30 mins ago, it made the same sound. https://youtube.com/shorts/-NksjK_wNo8?feature=share

Anyone know what causes this issue?

The truck is still within warranty so if a part needs to be replaced, I’m good. More so curious as to why the funky noise is occurring in a year old truck.

Sounds like the solenoid is messing up...or something is obstructing movement. Is it locking and unlocking the door? I once had a vehicle where the rubber boot of the solenoid got tangled with the extended push-rod. As the push rod moved in and out, the boot was causing an issue of movement. Could be a similar issue. Take it in and let them fix it.

The truck still locks and unlocks, I’ll take it to the dealer

Be prepared for the dealer to say "it locks and unlocks, so there's no problem". Just saying. Hope they are willing to investigate since that sound is not normal. Let us know how it goes and what they find if they do any repair.

Just listened to mine before starting or driving and it makes a similar sound. I then started the vehicle and no more sound. Possible low battery.

The noise comes and goes w/ my tacoma, regardless of if the truck is running or not. I don’t get it, I have an appointment in few weeks for the dealership to take a look.

I ended up taking the truck to the dealership and was told - “since it’s locking and unlocking what’s the big deal?”

Since I despise random noises that my truck makes, I took apart the door card. And I watched the locking unlocking mechanism to see what was making the noise, and there was an obstruction between the solenoid and the extending rod, twas a piece of loose rubber.

Unsure about what may be causing it in a second gen, but I took off the door card and watched unlocked/locked to see what was causing the issue. There was a piece of loose rubber wedged between the solenoid and the rod.

Wow dealership didn’t even bother to look.

Did you have to remove the rubber or adjusted it? And did it resolve the noise when locking?

Only thing the dealership “helped” me with was telling me how to remove the door card if I wanted to do something about it . And all I had to do was gently pull the rubber lining from where it was situated and put it back in place, the whole thing took maybe 45 minutes. The biggest P.I.T.A was ensuring I didn’t snap any of those cheap plastic clips that hold the door card in place.

I’ve unfortunately upgraded my phone since that predicament and if I did, they’d be on there. Whenever I’m off work I’ll open it up and see, I’d like to think I took a photo of it but I’m not sure.

No worries bro. Ironically, the noise went away after unlocking/locking multiple times But I’m gonna keep my ears open for that noise

Was the loose rubber by the door handle or behind the plastic sheet? Would it be a long term issue if nothing is done? I’m hoping it will go away on its own too, but hearing it just concerns me and makes me upset that I’m experiencing “issues”.
