Think the hybrid Tacoma/turbo is complex now? Just wait until we gotta deal with particulate filters. I would also wager to bet that in a few years the hybrid will be the only option as emissions get even tighter.

    What are your thoughts?

We're gonna be allowed to drive and be able to afford fuel in the future???

    I like your optimism.

Plug in hybrid needs to get here sooner rather than later. Going to be interesting to see how Jeep and Ford do in 2025.

Ha, I would have thought it a wacky illuminati conspiracy too but if Tim heard it from the lead engineers, it's probably legit and most-likely will affect this generation of Tacoma.

Instead of whatever he is going on about, I would like for these youtubers to ask Mr. Chief Engineer why they crossed the exhaust from the right side exhaust manifold to the left and put the gas tank on the right:

    upload_2024-4-12_10-47-59.jpg

And then chose to put the fuel filler on the left, necessitating whatever this thing is:

I am just a clueless internet consumer. These smart, paid, well connected youtubers surely can ask an obvious question, right?

Maybe, maybe not. But considering the base Wrangler 4XE starts at about $51k and Rubicon starts at $62k, then it might not be that far off. Thought it will get to $70k at some point if we keep the inflation rate going like it is.

I also think a plug-in hybrid Tacoma would be awesome. Even if it only had 30-40 miles of city EV range. It is probably being worked on at the moment and I am aware Ford has a plug-in hybrid Ranger ready for Australia. As far as particulate filters go, I am not anti-clean air but I do know that these things are the reason why modern diesels are prohibitively expensive and they are one of the main reasons their reliability has tanked.

When I was a kid I would smear my food around my plate to make my mom think I had eaten more than I actually did. I think some these emissions measures are kind of the same thing. I could be wrong though.

LOL! I would assume if you can get that combined MPG up there then it may eliminate that requirement. Totally not apples to apples but the Rav4 Prime is 94MPGe combined but 38MPG on gas only. Delta of 56 applied to a Tacoma would be 22+56=78MPGe. Considering 85-90% of the US daily drivers commute is under 30 miles then that range would be perfect.

Gasoline Particulate Filters are a thing and are coming, Ford is already using them in some models.

Some are integrated into the catyletic converter so we think converters are expensive now just wait.

Was that a functional problem, or an aesthetic one? I would trade an aesthetic problem with a larger fuel tank. Any day of the week.

No clue. It was a guess. But few of us see the big picture in the context of engineering at this scale. Could be a TNGA-F issue on other models that makes manufacturing a difference more expensive, could be a myriad of things

Which is my point. We don't know why. Why can't youtuber with access to Mr. Chief Engineer ask this question. Instead we get repetitive shallow showcase presentations and whatever this dude is going on about.

Probably because it’s not something most people care or think about, especially not technically ignorant YouTube bros.
