This should be the part number and will fit all Toyotas with a 2” receiver. To my knowledge on the gen4 Tacoma the hitch design changed somewhat but it’s still a 2” receiver.

Yep, including the fact that you need a longer pin to attach a hitch ball. My Swagman bike rack's bolt-on pin no longer works with the lockwasher, can only get the threads to catch without the lockwasher. Have to check it every tankfill to make sure it's not come loose. I checked and Swagman doesn't have a longer one, so it's off to HD/Lowes I go...

From my past experiences plugging the hitch receiver made rain water get trapped in some areas causing it to rust. Anyone had any issues with Toyota hitch?

You have a perfect excuse to start saving up for a 1Up rack.

This thread is making me smile because I'm rocking the receiver plug from my 1999 4Runner that was included with the vehicle, and the 1Up so generally amazing works with any receiver including both sizes depending on rack purchase choices.

Quite seriously, friends only let friends get 1Up racks - the design, the materials, the parts options, repairability. We've had and have Thule, Yakima, Saris and 1Up. If you use the stuff a lot, all seasons, encounter salted roads it is just plain dumb to waste money on a rack not made entirely of aluminum and stainless steel. Same for a rack that does not have service parts for the whole thing and even if it's 12+ years old.

I see their prices have climbed but I'd do it again if I had to.

I’ve left the hitch open on my 19, unplugged, since I bought it in early 19.

Now I don’t tow anything so it has no wear but the factory paint, powder coat, or however they treat it and the inside of the receiver is still black and shiny to this day.

Florida salt free roads of course help but it should in theory be fine unplugged.

Yeah my concern is being plugged and having rain water get trapped in the crevices.

This thread has been officially de-railed it was about a part number not rain or rust if you plug it, just a part number.

True but do you need further information? I believe the part number has been provided.

Yep. My 2010 hitch had rust in it when it was still on the dealer's lot. Either plug both front and rear of the hitch tube (and spray cosmoline inside) or leave it completely open.

I'd be concerned that kids would remove it and take.

No one has stolen it from our RAV4 Prime yet… yes, we have a 2” receiver on it.

Probably wont happen, but I recall being a kid and the assholes I hung around with as a kid. Maybe kids don't do those things today, adults are still stealing full sets of wheels off vehicles.

It’s a cheap plastic cover. No concerns at all. Just buy a new one.

Understood, but I have a $300 rack that works, just need a long enough bolt with the right threads and I can use the $700 I'd spend on a 1Up on something else for Yoda...

Kids suck. They stole the Roundel valve stem covers off my BMW 30 years ago. Still angry about that. And get off my lawn!

My wife has the same Toyota hitch plug on her LC250 that she had on her 2004 T4R. Nobody stole it yet.

The rear of the square class IV hitch receiver tube under the truck on the OEM hitch is open. The OEM receiver hitch plug is a press-in fit: Not water tight, but water can't collect in it. Coat the draw-bar with a thin coat of lithium grease or spray with PB Blaster to keep surface rust at bay in the receiver.
