Hello, I recently received my OEM Fuel Tank Skid Plate (Part #PT938-35244) and when I went to install it, I found out that you either have to buy the rear most tank strap with the mounting studs separately or that Sparks Parts did not include it with the skid plate if it was supposed to be included. I have searched the internet for hours trying to find the actual part # for it to no avail, I believe someone with access to the Toyota TIS can help me. Attached are pictures of the mounting strap without studs on my truck, and the parts diagram that has the mounting studs but only a reference number not an actual part number. If Sparks Parts ever gets back to me, I will update the thread with the part number for the proper fuel tank strap with mounting studs to save future headache for people in this forum. You also need 2 nuts (part # 90179-08241 ) to mount the full length skid plate to the mounting strap with the studs.

On the previous 2 generation, the studs were part of the strap.

Let me see if I can find the strap part #.

Yeah. Because no online sites have 2024+ diagrams with full part number that you can click on.

I agree. Local dealership is a good start.

Were you ever able to get an answer for this install?

I have a possible part number (77603-04020) based on a conversation with a dealer parts guy over the phone but haven't had a chance to stop by a local dealership and get it ordered. Nothing online clearly shows that tank strap having the studs for the skid plate.

So I have a 24 tacoma Trd off-road hybrid with the premium package and I climbed under to see what was going on. Mine appears to have that strap. Is this what is required to do the install?

I did some extreme offloading and I punctured my gas tank and now there’s a slow leak. I’ve already purchased the new full-size gas tank & skid plate, which is not that robust, but it is factory. There was an extra strap necessary with two studs coming out of it and there are two nuts that go with it. I’ve listed the part numbers below do your homework and doublecheck, but this is what I ordered.

    Plastic gas tank

    $903.46 part number is 7700104240

    Part number for strap 77603-04020

    2 nuts for Bolts 90178-A0114

No, that tank strap doesn't have the mounting studs coming off of it like the 2 tank straps towards the front of the truck has.

Let me know when you receive it and if it is indeed correct, I'm like 99% sure those are the correct part #s but I know returning OEM parts can be a pain and I haven't had a chance to swing by a dealer to have them bring it in before I pay for it.

I did my homework and I read articles about old school second and third generation guys taking the existing strap, drilling a hole through it and putting a bolt to hold the new fuel tank skid plate. That’s an option of course if done cleanly.
I haven’t dropped my tank yet or pulled apart the existing strapping system, but I believe I have the correct parts including the new gas tank. Praise the Lord baby Jesus, brand new truck, brand new tank.
I like to say cheaper than women and way cheaper than a hotel room when you’re camping so I’m bucks ahead..!

That's got to be it, I'm going to get mine on order. Sorry about the punctured tank but thank you for the part number help.

I removed the fuel tank and replaced with a new one, switching over the fuel pump and any evaporation canister parts.
I added the longer plastic gas tank skid plate w/ new rear hanger that’s necessary for an upgrade to this part.

Nice job finding and installing the new gas tank.

Questions: The TRD Pre Runner did not come with the plastic skid plate but a shorter one, as shown in your picture. Is this correct?

You replaced the fuel tank and didn't check to see if a Tundra 22.5 or GX550 21gal tank would fit? So disappointed.

I like the idea of a bigger tank but to-date mileage has not been a big deal and we’ve been going to death Valley, Mojave desert, Holcomb valley, Pismo, Lucerne Valley and we’ve done well with gas consumption, plus I carry 2 gallons of fuel so essentially the same size tank that you mentioned…!

When I filled the new gas tank back up it took 19 gallons from dry..!

Do you know anybody that can modify an existing tank..? lol

Could you not have measured the space between, and added your own bolts? Probably cheaper than buying from a dealership. Or if they are the same as previous gens, they can be bought as a pair on Amazon for $60?

You are correct the TRD pre-runner did not come with the Gas tank skid plate. I know my buddy has a trail hunter and his came stock with that item..

I’m really liking the “locker rear end” for off Roading. It’s amazing amount of grip without the limited slip trying to take over.

I did read articles from older generations that people were just putting in 2 bolts. I thought since I only had 5000 miles on the vehicle. I try to keep it factory and bolted together with non-stock parts… meh ….
