I tried to change the trim ring around my 4-wheel drive selector on my 2021 tacoma using the AJT trim ring.
I was unsuccessful getting the OEM piece off so i reassembled it and now the selector is not functioning properly. it’s very lose and will easily switch to 4-hi.
i researched but i couldn’t find the part number.

does anyone have the part# for the 4-wheel selector for a 2021 tacoma? i need to order one so i can replace the one that’s not functioning properly.

Sounds like you lost the small plastic nub that was located behind the small spring. @MESO might have some recommendations on how to repair and what to replace it with.

There is a thread in this forum in the sticky section where a member is quite knowledgeable about a lot of parts. If he can't find it, you don't need it. :) :)

I have lost that nub and it is nowhere to be found. At this point I just need the correct part#.
On part.toyota.com they show the part# to be 842230C010
So when I do a search for the cheapest price it will take me to TRDshop.com (https://trdshop.carlocktoyotaoftupelo.com/oem-parts/toyota-select-switch-842230c010) but that site says the part# does not fit 2021 tacoma.
I'm wondering if that's just because of the new model year.

That is the correct part number, nothing has changed between the 2021 and older 3rd gen models when it comes to the transfer switch. The same thing is shown for the TRD Air Intake.

But, hopefully you can find the missing piece and rebuild rather than purchase a whole new switch.

If it were me, I would try to improvise something. It looks like you need a detent, like a small ball bearing. How about trying a single bead snipped from a beaded chain (the kind that's attached to ceiling fans or bathtub drains)? You have nothing to lose.

I took my 4x4 switch apart to replace the chrome ring. In doing so, I noticed that the little detents were held in place by a very thick (viscous) grease. I even turned the switch upside down and shook it to see if they would fall out. They didn't. So, the conclusion is that it's very difficult to lose the detents. But if you do so, it's easy to improvise a detent. I certainly wouldn't pay $140 for a replacement switch just for this.

Where does the ball bearing go? Mine fell out and I don’t know where it goes. Any pics? 2008 Tacoma 4wd selector housing.
