I was adjusting my parking brake because the FSM states that I should hear 12-18 clicks when setting the parking brake and I heard about 30. While I was under there I saw this spring that doesn't seem very springy. Is it supposed to go in a hole or something? Or does it need to be replaced? My brake light stays on because the parking brake lever doesn't have enough tension to press the button under the dash and I suspect this may be the issue.

Looks like the spring in your intermediate lever broke, that spring should be providing tension on the assembly. Here is what mine looks like. Part number on the spring is 9094903021 EDIT - See comment below

I have the exact same problem and I got a new spring..but the spring doesn’t seem to be the problem. There’s nothing that’s putting tension on the spring..it just sits loose..Just got a brand new spring too. Do you guys have a picture of how the spring sits on that brace that’s bolted to the frame? Maybe something broke off on mine and that’s why my spring just sits loose? Also, the picture that CrustyTaco posted, his spring seems to be way longer on the top than the Op’s and mine.

Welcome to Tacomaworld. I ended up replacing my intermediate lever last year. Here are some pics that might be helpful:

It does look like your spring is a little short, but it's hard to tell with the picture zoomed in so close. Part number is 46295-35010, was $8 from McGeorge Toyota.

Just figured out what was wrong. I guess I pulled the E-brake too hard last time which moved my spring causing it to no longer put tension on the lever (which also snapped my cable lol). So I was installing the spring the wrong way which is why it had no tension on it to begin with, but thanks for the fast reply man!

From what I found online, the single cab uses a different spring compared to the extended cabs.

    Single cab Spring and intermediate:

    Ext cab spring and intermediate:

The longer spring is for the extended cabs but the shorter one is for the single cabs. The part numbers are very similar but just one or two digits different.

I'm a little late to this thread but hopefully someone who is shopping for this part sees this and doesn't end up buying the wrong spring!

Mine is an 03 extended cab and it also has the long spring, but it looks like you have a new one there. Is it possible to give the spring a half twist in the bracket so it applies tension?

Aside, if the light still doesn't go out it could be a stretched front cable,. that was the case with mine.

I'm not sure that I understand your question. But the lever arm has a post that fits into a hole in the bracket.
