How long do painted coil springs last before they start flaking?

Considering painting my OME coils to compliment the yellow OME shocks. Obviously painting before coilovers are assembled. Planning.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
If you care about how long it last shell out the dough and get it powdercoated.

It's all about performance/price comparison. If I can pay $20 and get 5 years out of painting, I might want to do that instead of powder coating for $75-100. That's why I'm asking about life expectancy.

...are coils from the factory painted or powder coated?

to each their own. Red would be disgusting to most people.
as far as rattle caning your coils I would not advise it. If you offroad then I wouldnt expect more than a year before they look like crap. maybe 2 years if you dont wheel.

also how do you plan on painting the inside of the coils? I would suspect lots of globs and paint runs.

everyone that has the toytec ultimate lift has red coils, havent heard anyone complain about the look of them in the past?

at this point, i'm just brainstorming (i literally thought of this idea 5 minutes before i posted it on TW). So to answer your question, I plan on putting a lot of thin coats, including required surface prep to help the paint adhere better. I don't expect anyone to notice a run or 2 unless they have their head up my Tacoma's skirt.

With that said, did you pick 2 years out of the air or do you have some experience with it, because it makes me want to powder coat...or do nothing, lol.

from post #9... "No, I think you misread. I bought Skyjacker springs, and they are effin' RED. I want them black, like everything else under the truck. I hate polished and chrome stuff. Too cheesy for me. I also got Bilsteins and if I don't do something about both of them, I'm gonna look like a rolling McDonalds."

    EFFFFF.......he's right. :rain:

Painting them Red is out of the question now. But Silver - maybe.

Thanks for the post - very informative.
