    Oahu, Hi
Have some rust on my lower control arms that I wanna take care of. Gonna wire brush and repaint so what paint is everyone using? Also should I primer first then paint? Looking for something that matches well and durable. Thanks

What? No. Don’t do this. Por 15 becomes brittle and cracks, trapping moisture underneath it, ESPECIALLY at places like control arms that are broad side of all those little road impacts.

Clean it and mavcoat it. Do whatever. Commission a local artist to paint a mural underneath...just don’t use por15

*on any given day I get paid to cut away entire sections of chassis under commercial equipment, that has been por15’ed, and then have to re-fab it all over again. It’s always a MESS underneath.

Go to Home Depot, Lowes or Amazon and buy any kind of rust stop paint. If it's really bad they make a rust converter paint too. Then get some Fluid Film for a yearly treatment.

Check Eastwood for some of their chassis painting products. They have some products that are primer / rust converter that requires very little cleanup of existing parts. You then put a top coat on. The top coat is very durable. I've been using their products for my frame on Bronco resto.

I agree. I mean straight wire brush and rattle can is fine.

POR15 gets perpetuated on off-road forums as some miracle product when it’s far from it. It has its applications but not for recoating some surface rust control arms.

Is this stuff rugged enough to withstand abrasive conditions such as gravel etc on the trail? Reason I ask is the general consensus on any type of poly coating has been known to trap moisture and accelerate corrosion.
