well not technically the key tumbler portion - that turns but the opening part/mechanism is somehow/somewhere jammed and i cannot turn it mor than 1/8 turn and so the release mechanism doesn't move enough to open the latches. anyone have any ideas or experience witht this kind of thing?

well i took apart the lock and lactch mechanism to isolate if the issue was the latch or the lock. after the latch arm assemblies were removed from the lock, it was evident that this issue was in the lock assembly itselft. again, the key tumbler turned fine, but the twist mechanism was just stuck. i sorayed a bunch of silicon spray in there and that freed it right up. must have been some corrosion there. Maintain your locks!
