So I'm new here so try not to rip into me too hard. I changed my oil on my 07 taco the other day and filled it up. After roughly 100 miles of driving I realized I drained the tyranny and put new oil in with the old. I started experiencing slipping and the error code p2714 (shift solenoid d stuck closed) came up along with occasionally a few other solenoid codes but p2714 was the only consistent. I replaced the oil, drained what remained in the tranny pan, cleaned it, got a new filter and gasket, and refilled it up with fluid. I also noticed no large metal shavings during this so that was good. But after driving again the slipping still happened and the light stayed on. Help is greatly appreciated

Are you sure the AT Fluid is at the correct level?

I’d personally check the level, clear the code and hope like hell the problem goes away.

Here is a good write up on the procedure to get the Truck in “Fluid/Temp check mode”

    @gearcruncher

Don’t feel bad about the screw up. Lots of people have done it?
I do have to ask, where was the fluid level on the oil dipstick after the oil change?
I know the dipstick can be hard to read, but I’d think it would show way over?
Thank god, I have not done it myself. (Hope I never do, but things can happen)

Did you notice a burnt smell to the tyranny fluid when you drained the remaining fluid? I fear for your torque converter....

This dude is on his game. Take his advice first OP. Between him @Jimmyh @gearcruncher and myself, we'll set you straight. If not one, the other usually. Lol.

Hope I'm doing this reply right, I have never used any forums before. But I made a pretty dumba** (is cursing allowed?) mistake of not checking oil level after. But when I did later it was extremely high. Its leveled off now as I just drained all the oil and replaced it with new. As far as tyranny oil I believe it is at the correct level but ill try to level it off one more time. And as far as hoping it goes away, I'd i relieved the fluid, how soon would the slipping stop, or the engine light go off? Also thank you so much for taking time out of your day to help this hopless diyer

No smell, unless it was faint. But I have a pretty good nose. Also cut open the filter with a grinder and saw no large metal chunks so hopefullt thats good.

First thing you need to do is correctly check the fluid level of the transmission.
In the link I posted earlier, you will find the steps to do this.

After the fluid is at the correct level.
I would expect the “slipping” to stop fairly quick. IF IT’S GOING TO STOP.

There is member here that is quite knowledgeable in these Transmissions.
I have tagged him, hopefully he’ll see it soon and give better advice.

Ideally you don’t want to mix the fluid. But in your case, mixed fluid is probably better than low fluid.
If @gearcruncher says Valvoline is good stuff, I take his word for it. It’s good stuff.
You can read below on it.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ws-transmission-fluid-is-garbage-get-it-out-of-your-transmission-now.331521/

If you have time, and feel confident about doing a DIY on the full system drain.
You might look here. If you do decide to do a full system exchange, I’d highly recommend dropping the pan and cleaning the magnets and filter.

Again, I’d make sure the fluid level is correct. Drive it and see what happens.

The guy that wrote the article in the link above is probably the best guy to know what to do.
    Hopefully he see this soon.

Here now . Sorry boys , been on holidays with no internet reception .
2714 triggers when the computer in your truck sees a low pressure issue .
Whats the mileage on the transmission ?
I have to ask .....Are you checking the fluid with the engine running in park at the proper temperature ?

I can think of two things that will cause the problem .

1- Introducing new fluid with a very high detergent concentration into a transmission pan that was dirty .
When this happens , the new fluid lifts tiny particles from the bottom of the pan and forces those particles through your valve body and solenoids .

2- The truck was run low on fluid causing the computer in your truck to trigger the solenoid code .

If you tried clearing the code a couple times and it continues to pop back up , your next step is testing the solenoid for resistance and voltage to verify your wiring going to the solenoid is functioning properly .
Its not uncommon for guys to accidently pinch a wire when replacing the transmission filter or damaging the external wiring harness when removing and installing the pan .

Got some info here to help you out
