hey guys second post since this site mostly have everything when I used the search but this time didn't find anything. Last Tuesday I was mudding with my 07 Tacoma when all of a sudden my speedo and odo stop working and check engine came on.so I check for the codes and P0500 came up saying faulty speed sensor.so I ordered the sensor and changed it.Still no speedo and odo.So I made more research and some people say its for the abs sensors but heres the catch i broke both my abs sensors in front when installing my 6¨ pro comp lift and the abs light came on f course but I alwas had a speedo and odo. So tonite im gonna check for the wires and just to make sure the speed sensor is on the passenger side of the tranny right. If any of u guys have any other suggestion on what to check id appreciate before I get a speeding ticket.

I would look for water intrusion on the connector for the speed sensor on the transmission. Disconnect it and use a can or dust spray like you use for computer keyboards and blow out the connection and the speed sensor where the connector plugs into. Water intrusion into a harness can wreck havoc on a vehicle. Also some codes once the problem is fixed will still have to be cleared via-scan tool before the ECU will begin paying attention to the signal. Every BMW and Mercedes that come into my shop I have to do that to, so I would not be surprised if Toyota had the same thing.

i was just wondering if theres a way to check my sensors if they are still good?resistance on sensor?voltage that should be going to the connector?

Sorry, I has missed this thread in my rechecks.

According to my service information the automatic transmission vehicles with ABS use the front vehicle wheel sensors to calculate vehicle speed using the skid control computer, and this information is transmitted via data lines to the instrument cluster. This of course seems to be interesting considering you said you broke both of your front sensors a while back. Perhaps the computer was using the transmission speed sensor as backup, then when signal there was lost it stopped working? This is of course just an educated guess at this point, but according to service manual information, a V6 with automatic transmission uses the front wheel speed sensors, while a manual transmission truck uses the transmission speed sensor.

P0500 is a code that, according to my service information, means that the speed sensor signal is not present from one or more front wheel speed sensors. So as long as the speed sensors are not working, you will have the P0500.
