Hi all, been reading this site for a while now and gotta say I love you all. I think I may be able to give back at this point with some information that may be of value to some...

Truck (2014 Tacoma V6) Engine and TRAC OFF light came on and presented a P0328 code. Did a bit of reading on here and some of the stories were a little scary considering what could be involved. Chewed wires, removing heads, expensive parts... but the worst was reading where both sensors and wiring were changed, work completed, and the code came back... ouch!

So I thought I'd prepare myself for worst case scenario and priced out parts and labor... roughly $3500 at a garage I previously used. The Toyota dealer wouldn't give me an estimate over the phone and wanted me to bring the truck in.

Long story short... during my inquiries it was suggested that I may have contaminated fuel, well now there is something I can explore on my own. My tank was full so I thought I'd start by adding one bottle of gas-line antifreeze and a bottle of Sea Foam Marine. Then I fired up the truck and tried to rest the code, it wouldn't reset so I went for a drive anyways. Figured it would shake up the tank, combine the additives with the fuel and hopefully start to work on what I thought might be water in the fuel. After a few attempts I was finally able to rest the codes and the engine seemed back on track, I had driven about 20 miles. Ran some errands while I was out and after one of my stops the codes came back. Drove another 5 miles and it reset again. Over the next day or so I burned down half a tank, it threw a code yet one more time but it reset right away... it seemed to be working. At half a tank I added another can of Sea Foam Marine (I use Marine because it has extra moisture inhibitors) and didn't add any more fuel till the low fuel light came on. The good news is that it seems to have done the trick! From there I ran about half a tank of non-ethanol through for good measure... now I'm back on regular fuel, been running for a week and everything seems to be back to normal. Fingers crossed I hope that does it!

So there you have it. Forgive me if this has been suggested, I missed it if it was. Something else to consider when all else fails and perhaps one of the first things to check.

I had a slightly different code but same general issue. A chipmunk took a snack on my wires. I took it to the dealership and they charged me $4k or so. I took it to a local shop that did the work for $600 without taking apart the engine, so take it to a Toyota savvy shop it'll save you $$$$$

Edit - I obviously skimmed. Awesome job

    Welcome to Tacoma World!

My 2019 V6 Highlander had the dread mice chewed wiring. A local independent shop repaired (pull off intake manifold) for $760.
The irony was my wife's Honda was in for wiring repair, and they moved into the Toyota. :(

It's starting to cool off, so time for more peppermint spray under the hood and well wells.

Yes absolutely, I read about soya-based wire coatings, critters etc... During my trouble shooting I tried to look under the intake with a scope and saw a part chewed acorn. At that point I thought my troubles were obvious. When I pushed on the acorn with the end of the scope it just crumbled, must have been there for a while. I suspect from the previous owner who used the truck at his cottage. Aside from that it was difficult to see anything with the scope. Thank goodness for the parts guy who shared his experience with me, may have saved me a bundle! I'll give it another week or two and go thank him in person.

I just had the same Code 2 weeks ago after filling up the tank with 76 gasoline. I always use Mobil 1 or Arco. The truck ran normal with no unusual sounds so I reset the code with my OBD MX+ and the code never came back.

I’m thinking it was an electrical issue??
