The day I drove my 2018 tacoma off the lot and I mean 30 feet off the lot my check engine light came on with P013C code. 3 times the dealetship has taken a crack at solving this issue with no resolve as of yet. Truck goes back in next week for round number 4. Any of you had this issue and if so what was this issue?

They have the code which should point them in the right direction. If I am correct that code is related to oxygen sensors. Could be a bad sensor or a faulty connection. What have they done so far to try to fix this?

They replaced heated oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 2 as toyotas tests. 1 day later the code came back. They also inspected for exhaust leaks, tested E13 and E11 ECU connector for resistance pre chart OFL passed. They took truck in for another look but they could not find an obvious cause. Then they did a re-caliration update or reset. But still P013C code. Now they are submitted a technical request through toyota to see whst they say....my thought is just maybe the parts they put in are also faulty cuz exact same code is showing still. I hooked my code reader up and it looks like there is more thsn one 02 sensor so maybe its a different one thsn what they replaced??? Was hoping someone else had this issue and had a solution to this.........

On a brand new vehicle, with two new sensors replaced. my guess is wiring harness or connector. The o2 resistance test is ok at the sensor, but far more important to do it at the ECU connector, that way your testing exactly what the ecu is reading, ie testing all the wiring and connectors as well. But, no idea what they have and haven’t actually tested. Each o2 sensor has its own unique code, (and wiring) so it won’t be a different o2 sensor effecting it, I think that code is the last sensor, Side 2 Bank 2, so downstream of the cat, so I wouldn’t think it’s any of the engine problems that could cause it to go off, as I’d expect side 2 bank 1 to be throwing codes as well. So that leaves, sensor, wiring / connectors and exhaust leak. I can’t think of anything else that would cause just 1 to go off.

Thats a tough one, if we have a newly sold vehicle, our concern is that customers vehicle is fixed instantly. After the 1 comeback it should have been fixed at any expense. Now you're going to bomb the survey (rightfully so) and this doesn't look good for the dealer.

Situations like this one, I would have 2 identical trucks and I would watch and monitor values on warm up. This could be a tough one, maybe ECM, maybe loose ground who knows, but the truck needs to be fixed next visit.

I've been pretty patient with this dealer as they have shown genuine frustration as well over this. We live in a small community of 10,000 people and believe me they have treated me very well over this having bought 2 twin trucks 2 days apart (my wife bought the other) but if tuesday comes and again no fix then I will be far more aggressive. I work in a John Deere dealership and I know how issues like these can frustrate the best mechanics yet usually after communication with the engineers a solution is found. So we'll see this tuesday......I'll post what happens for those who are curious......thanks for the replies so far people!

Well it went in this morning and as of closing time they have not found the issue. So they will try again tomorrow and have kept it overnight.........

Story now takes another turn......picked up truck as they are waiting for a new manifold next week. So left dealership and of course check engine light still on, drove to work last 2 days but just today the check engine light goes out without the code being cleared while I was driving. Now I have never had check engine lights go out by themselves, is this a toyota thing that can happen? Or what the hell?

Yes. CELs can go away if the problem no longer exists and you drive a certain pattern (40mi over 40mph, or something like that) to reset all the readiness codes. I believe codes are stored for a certain amount of time, even if there is no light?

Ya tonight when I get home I'll check to see if any code is still in there (other than the one you can't clear) i did just get off the phone with dealership and they did say the same thing that the light can go out. I never heard of that happening before but then again this is my first Toyota.......

AFAIK, all OBDII cars are like that. In the past, with our old car that was randomly going into limp mode, I had to struggle to get a code stored (a CEL was not coming on even in limp mode) and get it to the dealer before it cleared.

Perfectly normal. It’s either 2 or 3 complete heat cycles with no errors seen and the cel light should go out. Remember CEL is NOT manufactures idea but mandated by the gov, and supposed to be anything that could effects emissions, not just general engine errors.
Problem is most manufacturers use it for more than emissions, and include engine errors. And some states mandate if the cel light is on it should fail emissions test.
