Good question - I'm sticking with OTT. Nexus is fun but OTT suits my style of driving and personality better. I use my truck as a daily driver and I do a fair amount of remodeling houses, so it is a frequent visitor to Lowes. When the weather is nice I throw a canoe or kayak in the back and head to the water. I don't need to be quick and speedy. I do enjoy a smooth, strong acceleration which is what OTT gives me. If I had more of a competitive and aggressive style I would pick Nexus. Hope that explanation helps you the difference I see in them.

Some good feedback from Dmitry’s recent tune today:

“I’m really extremely happy with my tune , from 13mpg now easy I’m getting 17mpg and I was in traffic for 10 miles, this tune is a must check list, I bet I can squeeze way above 17mpg , I want to say thank you so much, my truck now brings more luxury and peace on freeway “

Hit me up if you’re looking to get tuned in the NW.

Really appreciate your thoughtful feedback and review. What you described was what we set out to accomplish and it's very rewarding to hear it was able to meet your needs.

The Toyota Tuning Network guys are just killing it! So awesome to see the rocking with the meet-ups and reviews. Thank all of you guys for making more smiles and miles per gallon!

Got me a schedule appointment for the OTT in a couple weeks, excited. Wish my schedule wasn’t so busy that I could get it sooner!

I have a friend who rode with me when I had Nexus loaded and now OTT. His unscientific analogy actually made some sense to me. He said with Nexus my taco acted like a wide receiver, quick and nimble, able to give that extra acceleration when asked for/needed. Now with OTT it feels like a powerful running back, not quite as quick but plenty fast, smooth, and strong, able to hit the line and drag defensive lineman for the extra yards. I agree with him.

What are the pros of the OTT over the KDMAX Pro tune? I love the KD, but I’m looking for more fuel economy as my taco is a work truck.

We were after a very specific behavior and feel for the OTT tune. This required us employ a bit different strategy than the KD folks to better suite what we wanted our tune to be. They're different tunes. Which tune is right for you will very much depend on how you use your truck and what driving characteristic suites your needs. We believe in the end user running what's best for them and we could go on-and-on about why we feel our offering is a solid choice, I prefer you experience it for yourself and see if it meets your needs. Even if our offering isn't to your flavor, we would be happy knowing you've got your truck running the way you like it. Even if that's with another tune.

    Here's a thread regarding this topic: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/kdmax-or-overlander-tune.757010/page-5#post-27178951

Reach out to Paul and see if you can schedule a test drive with him. I'm certain he'll be happy to assist. I know he's got a number of tuning events lined up.

My version of the unscientific analogy is like this… the other tunes are like a cute girl with a small butt… you tap it and it’s kind of fun sometimes… here comes the hot girl who does squats (OTT)… you slap it and it gives you some good feedback… firm, plenty of power, and just a solid tune.

    2019 TRD Off Road - 315/70/17 5.29 gears

Switch from OV2.0 (which I had for about a year) to OTT 7.0 last week.

Night and day difference. I drive an entirely new truck now. Now that I have OTT, I feel like OV wasn’t even really a tune.

I did OTT with medium throttle, and set the ECT for lite throttle to use in 4Lo

I had been contemplating getting a magnuson SC - now I honestly don’t feel like it’s necessary. Truck has much more power now, gets up to speed quickly, and is a pleasure to drive.

Dont waste your time with other tunes - just get OTT and go live your life enjoying your truck.

    Wow!

    Those tires are friggen' HUGE!

I definitely would not need that kinda road/off-road coverage for sure.

As a side note, that setup requires re-gearing considering how hard the engine would have to work to move your truck.

It also sounds like you're leaning to the OTT, which is fine but obvious.

    Thanks for the review.

The large tires definitely necessitated a regear, however the regear wasn’t enough. With the 5.29s, the RPMs were back in appropriate ranges for various speeds, but the truck still struggled - OV2.0 didn’t change that. OTT was the solution - it gave the truck the low end torque it needed to get these tires moving. 5.29 + OTT was what I needed. Now it’s perfect.

I think that’s what OTT is about - low end torque. Getting a heavy load moving, getting big tires moving, getting the truck moving up a steep incline, etc…..torque. No one driving a Tacoma needs power at 4000+ RPMs, I don’t anyways - I don’t drive my truck like that - I need power from 1500 to 3500 RPMs and thats what I got from OTT.

    So, ya I’m a fan 100%.

Without a doubt, the tune is needed regardless of the re-gearing. Apparently, these trannies (no offense) require tuning considering all the woes owners are noticing.
