I ordered a camper shell and it comes in around August. I currently have a stock 2021 TRD-Offroad Tacoma and I am not sure what to do next. The plan is to build a shelf system and to be able to sleep inside of my bed. In addition, I will be installing another roof rack to the shell to attach an awning. The total weight added will be around 500-600 lbs to the rear.. What do I need to do for the truck to be able to support that weight and ride more smooth? If you can a detailed process would help alot!

In my experience, every 200 lb. sags the rear about .5”. So if you add 600 lbs. and install a 1.5” lift, it’ll sit right about at the same height and rake as where you are now (at stock height with no weight). If you want the truck to sit higher than it is now after all is said and done, then calculate it accordingly… Example: You want the whole truck to sit 1” higher than it does now after the shell and weight with the same rake, then you’ll need about 2.5” rear and 1” front.

IMO install everything. Take some measurements before and after install of all the weight to be added. Then go from there. Leaf pack would be a great idea.

This is actually the path I walked. After installing everything I opted to go with ADS full suspension. ADS coilovers with reservoirs up front with eibach 700# springsa Dirt King upper A-arms and I opted to also gusset my spindles and add 1 25 wheel spacers. In the back I am running full resi ADS shocks and ADS air bumps. I am not running a lot of extra weight so I just went with an Add a leaf for now.IMG_20211231_172637_998.jpg 20211230_173033.jpg IMG_20220403_181905_829.jpg

That's a horrible idea. What time?
You will want to beef up the springs. I lifted mine with Billstien's about 3", went with heavy OME springs, and heavy coils up front as I planned to add a bumper and winch. It was just easier and more cost effective to do it that way. Don't forget the brake line extensions if you decide to lift it.

I'm going the other direction here. If you will only be overlanding and not really off-roading too much, look into firestone air bags. They are a pretty smooth ride and are much cheaper than upgrading the entire suspension.

Hey OP, you may also want to consider bed stiffeners with the cap. It will help keep the bed from flexing with the added weight.

I put in a set of Icon progressive add a leaf packs, but I highly recommend Firestone ride rite airbags with Daystar cradles. I have seen posts on both sides of the fence, but after towing and off-roading I have yet to see t by e negative issues.
