Doing a build mainly for my father and partially for myself.
He does a lot of hiking and some light dirt trails and has always wanted an overland type build so I decided to do it for him.
I'll be doing all of the modifications and I'll taking the car to car meets/shows. My passion is modifying cars, photography/videography, and attending car shows/meets.

    2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road V6 4WD

If you want to follow the build I will be posting it on the following -

Sounds like a solid list, and you'll be immediately ready for a tune and gears with all the added weight! Good luck with the build :turtleride:

edit: deleted/reposted to give you that 2nd post spot back!

If you're going as far as adding bumpers, you need to add sliders to the list instead of the Toyota Steps - they won't offer anything in the way of protection. I would honestly skip every TRD part you plan to order (unless it's interior/cosmetic) and go with a better independent producer of more off-road specific parts like you already are with the bumper!

Looks like it'll be a fun project!

    Noted!

Yea that's why I haven't ordered the TRD stuff yet. I prefer true aftermarket parts.

So I'm trying to figure out which suspension setup to go.

I calculated I am adding 300 pounds up front with the C4 bumper, winch, lighting, etc and the UpTopOverland Alpha Roof Rack. The rear is adding 500 lbs with the bed rack, rooftop tent, C4 rear bumper with swing arm and eventually a 5th TE37 spare wheel and tire. I was thinking I'd need 2-2.5" lift with 650lb springs. My father won't be doing crazy off-roading so he doesn't need a full blown setup, but I'm thinking Bilstein 5100 or 6112 with 650lb springs up front. For the rear I'm thinking Dobinsons Leaf Springs for 500-800lb load. I already have SPC UCA on the way.

It will be running 17x8.5" -10 TE37XT M-Spec with 285/70 Yokohama Geolandar MT tires.

Waiting on suspension parts to come in before I drive around due to some rubbing.
Whoever says 285/70/17 at stock height won't rub must have been super lucky.
It's only rubbing the very bottom corner of the front bumper.
I'm tempted to just cut it away since the C4 bumpers will require completely chopping half the bumpers off anyways.

    We'll see tomorrow.

Wow... I was searching for what to sell the OEM Bilstein's for and noticed everyone's was yellow... So I went out to inspect because I swear I saw silver colored Bilsteins.

Just installed UpTopOverland Alpha Roof Rack & Truss Bed Rack (Mid Height).
Spoke to my father and he said he won't be doing anything crazy enough to need rock sliders.
If he does later on, I'll go ahead and throw them on at that point.

Parts arrived but haven't installed yet -
    OEM TRD PRO Grill
    SPC UCA
    Warn VR Evo 10-S Winch
    DesertArmor Warrior RTT
TRD Skid Plate (Going to powder coat black)

Morimoto XB Headlights & Tail Lights
OME 2886 Springs & Icon AAL

Installed the Bilstein 5100 with OME2886 and also the SPC UCA.

    Driver's side UCA.... :frusty:
That bolt was a pain in the ass to get out. Passenger side was 10x easier and much easier to reinstall since there's access through the engine bay.
I'll post pics in the morning of the lift.

Looks like ome 2886 on 5100's 0 setting is a 3" lift with just roof rack. We'll see how much the c4 bumper and winch drop it.

Solid build! I'm considering doing the exact same racks, but I can't decide between the low-pro bed rack vs. the TRUSS system. Assuming that you picked the low bed rack to keep the RTT below cab height?

Can you share a photo of how much space you have in the bed? I'm curious what the height is between the bottom of the rack and the bed.
