I'm interested in putting an overhead gun rack over the back seat of my double cab 3rd gen. Has anybody done this yet?

I didnt own a gen 2 so I'm not sure, but are the cabs similar? Are the rear grab handles the same? I've seen some gen 2's that had racks that mounted up to the grab handle holes.

If you have the moonroof... the ceiling has dropped and might be hard to put in a rack.... Rear window rack would then be best option, but visable

I was just looking at that today. It's going to be nearly impossible to mount a rack overhead if you have a moonroof. (which I do). My two main criteria for a gun rack is quick access and it has to be out of sight. I've got 5% tint on rear window and rear sides, so overhead would have been perfect. Really not sure what to do now....

We used to install overhead gun racks in our police vehicles. They use a bar that attaches to the outside edge of the door frame. I was going to see if one would fit once I got my DCLB with moon roof. Here is a link for the product. "Gun rack"

Also, here is the link to the manufacturer that gives you options for different weapons and more than one. Select over head no partition from the first drop down then the remainder is up to you. "Tufloc"

There are tons of solutions. I just did a search for truck gun racks on google then looked at the pics on the images tab. All sorts for AR's, shotguns, rifles, handguns, etc.

Composite bed. Lousy springs. Might be a problem. :p :D

Yeah, the first thing I did was a google image search as well. But, the moonroof drops down quite a bit and I think it will give fitment issues with most of the racks that I've seen. The moonroof indention goes all the way back past the line of the rear grab handles.

Has anybody actually put one of these in a 3rd gen with a moonroof? Did the 2nd gen moonroof have the same ceiling bulge?

I don't believe toyota ever had a factory moonroof for the second gen. Might have to go this route... https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-seats-is-there-interest.312283/#post-8350907

The pic posted is for a rack that is too wide for a Tacoma from my research. Minimum with is 48" on that model and our trucks are around 46". Sent an email to manufacture about possibility of mod to fit. Hope to hear back because I like the design.
