    @mnerren and RickG:

The dealerships carry the metal clips to hold in the console; they are part number 90084-46017.

Note that last time I bought a batch (I buy several dozen at a time to supply people who need them) they were over $2/ a piece. Yes, Toyota is proud of their tiny bits of metal.

Reverse the order to put it back together. Remember to plug it in and test it before you completely reassemble it.

Try Fry's in Fountain Valley or simply replace with standard resistors like I, and many others, did. See previous posts here...(mine is on page 69).

Same problem, this fixed it, thanks! I did call the dealer and they said to replace the board was $287.28 plus tax. Not as much as I thought it would cost. Then I pulled apart my F350 since it didn't work and sure enough, same issue and same fix!

    Foglight mod; compass fix
I came to Taco World to find the foglight mod to run them with highbeams (done, CHECK) and came across this. My compass / therm hasn't worked for probably a year. This was awesome. Like others, mine didn't really appear broke so I followed suit and welded it anyway (code word for people who are horrible solderers). Plugged back in, COMPASS ON! You guys rock. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can buy a compass temp for a 2009 DC grey
I searched through what I thought was all the pages with no luck yet
I think all I need is the board and display.
Currently there is plug hanging there
(been a black hole since I got the truck, so obviously it was removed in order to fix but never replaced)

    Thanks for any help

    BTW TW rocks!

    Akkelly,

We sell new units, but so does the dealership. Check with them first to see about pricing, as it seems to vary wildly throughout the country. (Why, I have no idea).

Ours are currently $159 shipped. This is the updated version that they claim won't experience the resistor separation issue. I have inspected one and back them up on that statement, for what it is worth.

Also, make certain there used to be an accessory meter in place...there should be plastic molding that is designed to fit, and an ambient temp sending unit behind your front grill.

Mine works but i was wondering how accurate is you guys? Mine said 53 and the thermometer at home said 48. I held the button down and it came up var then a number. What does this do or how do i make it more accurate than 5 degrees?

    wanna taco,

There is no way to adjust the accuracy of the ambient temp display (there aren't any trimpots on the circuit board, either). It is apparently hard-coded and therefore unchangeable.

The var function you are seeing is magnetic variation...it allows you to adjust the compass based on where you live.

See here for compass calibration instructions (pdf file)

No, just a very poor quality design using the wrong components. Those little surface-mount resistors should not be used if they are going to get hot (like these do). When they get too hot, the small amount of solder used during assembly actually melts or breaks down and the solder joint separates. When they are re-soldered with a larger amount of solder & flux, the joint will last much longer. In reality, physically larger resistors that are able to withstand the heat better without getting so hot should have been used, and still can be used instead of just re-soldering the original resistor.
