Got torn boots and need to replace the outer tie rod ends. Got any tips other than counting the turns from the jam nut when backing off the rod? Also, are they identical parts for each side or do i need to order a left/right? Thinking about going with OEM... your thoughts?

Counting turns will get you close but you should still get an alignment when you're done

Depending on your mileage, I'd consider changing the inner tie rods as well.

I bought Moog inner and outer tie rods from Rockauto. They appear to be quality parts and have a grease zerk on them.

My originals lasted 180k so if the Moogs last half or more, I'd be happy.

count the turns, measure the front/rear tire spacing using tape measure, do the chalk test etc. All that if you're too cheap to just get an alignment. I trust a digital guy over my old eyeballs, the money you'll save replacing the tie rod will be well worth the peace of mind for a computurized alignment.

And shake those inners real good when you have them disconnected. That's the best time to check if they're loose
