    I have a 2012 Texas edition. A couple of my tires are out of round. A friend of mine, who is a Toyota technician, told me that the Texas edition rims are hard to seat. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    I've heard of the issue but haven't confirmed it. A guy I know who had a 2012 TRD Off Road with aftermarket 16" Wheels and oversize tires told me that this happened to him but balance and alignment helped although didn't completely resolve. I have a stock suspension '12 TRD sport with 17" Mickey Thompson and Terra Grappler P265/70R 17 and he says my tires will eventually get out of round. Now if the truck has been sitting like at the airport for a few days, I can kind of feel it the first few miles but normal highway driving is typically smooth but it can shake a bit on any highway imperfection.

    Having hard to seat rims has nothing to do with out of round tires.

    If the tires were not seated on the rim it would not hold air pressure.

    Your buddy is full of crap.

    How do you know the tires are out of round?

    Normal for any tire. Called flat spotting due to sitting on the same area for days. When running on the highway the rubber will warm up and resume its natural shape ( round ).

    Agree completely. If the tire was truly out of round or defective, it would exhibit the same problem all the time and usually at the same speed.

    The trick is to not skimp on the tire bead lube... There is always time for lube.

    Thanks for the replies. It sounds like may just be the tires. I need to get the alignment done anyway. The tires vibrate all the time, especially on asphalt.

    I looked at one of tires on the balance machine at discount tire and it looks like the wear is through an area of about a third of the tire (for example: 12 o'clock to 4 o'clock. I don't see any cupping. They said they couldn't get it balanced.

    Yes
    I'm going to disagree with this from very real personal experience. I've had a set of tires go out of round as they wore down and you can't fix it. When the tire is out of round it is not just felt at one speed and it can get nearly scary at highway speeds. Contrary to popular belief an out of round tire will not fix itself or feel smoother at higher speeds.

    Sounds like a balancing problem. As in they aren't doing it correctly. Have them use a Haweka Adapter as they are supposed to.

    Unbeknownst to most is the true tortuous developmental path of the modern wheel. Archeologists and scientists have constructed a timeline and typology of the wheel development and have categorized them as follows:

    The Square Wheel – the first wheel, constructed with square stone block with hole in center for axle, the biggest drawback was 4 extreme jolts with every rotation

    The Triangular Wheel – the next level of wheel development, constructed with triangular stone block with hole in center for axle, it was originally thought that this would eliminate 1 jolt per rotation and therefore making for a smoother ride

    The Octagon Wheel – the 3rd level of wheel development, constructed with an eight-sided stone block with hole in center for axle, it was originally thought that by trading 4 enormous jolts for 8 smaller the ride would improve (the original octagon wheel is the origin of the Stop sign shape)

    The Modern Wheel – the pinnacle of man’s wheel development, now mostly round

    :rolleyes::devil:
