    No doubt this has come up often through the years, but how many know where Toyota got the name for this truck? Often owners refer to their trucks here as "Tacos" and of course that's okay. But the Tacoma name has nothing to do with any ethnic food item, and isn't Hispanic in origin. Here's a quote from an early Toyota press release;

    "Tacoma: From the Salish Indian word for the mountain that provided water to their tribe (later changed to Mount Rainier). The name suggests images of strength and power."

    Of course, those of us from the Pacific Northwest knew it all along. But naming a truck after a city in Washington State who many remember mostly for it's aroma was critiqued humorously from the beginning. (But then, "Tundra" was joked about early on too.)
