Hey Guys, I recently picked up my 2018 Tacoma access cab long bed. Ive had it for about 3 months and now that the initial hype has faded a bit she is starting to look naked. Ive been looking for a camper shell to put on her but new ones are upwards of $2,000 as I'm sure you are all aware. Being that I'm in my last year of college, clearly I can't afford to take that out of my savings.

I suppose what I'm asking is if any of you experts have any advice for getting one of these (used or un-used) for around $1,000 ? I understand you pay for what you get, especially with things like trucks, but I'm seeking a cheaper alternative or maybe even places that finance these types of things.

Anything helps, Cheers and thank you for taking the time to read!

Craigslist, ebay, etc. Also check local used car places as they often pull the shells off of trucks before trying to sell them as they're typically not a selling point. One one of places near here has some old full-sized shells sitting behind their shop just rotting.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I happened across a pest control company that had a few aluminum shells they were trying to get rid of cheap (and I mean cheap) but I already had one. Good luck in your hunt!

If you look in the usual places, eBay, Craig’s list etc. you’ll find one. It may not match your paint color and it may look like crap but you’ll find one. I don’t mean any offense but how can you afford a brand new Taco but not afford a decent shell?

Yeah $2000+ for a cap seems like a lot until you consider it's a $40k truck. Maybe get a used one cheap for now and upgrade when you start making the big bucks. Will a 2nd Gen cap get close to fitting a 3rd Gen? There are plenty of them around. Seems like the tailgate area is different, but maybe it would be close enough?
