Are either of these good for my truck? They don’t have red or yellow tops here.

    Thanks

I've run all 3 colors in various cars in the past. Currently have a red top in my Challenger.

I used blue tops in my cars that had aftermarket systems because of the extra binding posts.
Was nice to have a dedicated post just for lights and amps

Also, make sure you get the dark gray case one.

The binding posts are where the battery terminals go. Cars have clamps that go onto the posts, boats can also have just eye lugs that bolt to the battery. Bluetop has both.

The light gray is a deep cycle, the dark gray is for starting. It doesnt make a ton of difference, but if your just starting the truck, then the dark gray. If you plan to run things off battery power while the truck is off, then the light gray will work.

Was checking out that link @5nahalf sent and this is at the bottom. Should be pretty clear the difference between them and casing colors

"Note: The difference between BLUETOP and YELLOWTOP deep-cycle batteries is that BLUETOP batteries have both automotive (SAE) posts and threaded studs, while YELLOWTOPS (other than D31T) only have SAE terminals.

If you ever get confused about the colored tops, just remember: If it has a dark gray case, then it’s a starting battery; if it has a light gray case, then it’s a deep-cycle (dual-purpose) battery."

    Good info to have.

BTW, if anyone is interested. Go to local places that sell car batteries, ask them if they have any dead optimas in their core bins you can have. Optima lots of times will warranty the battery for you and you can get a free one.

Me and my dad did this for a while when I worked at a auto parts store.

Is 7/2018 the newest battery they have on the shelf?

I have a bunch of led lights, 4 of them. I guess light grey would make more sense ?

Depends, are you running more than 250 watts over trucks max draw? are you planning to leave them on when the truck is off?

If you say no to them, then its not needed and the dark gray is fine.
Keep in mind, your truck has reserve power from the alternator already, so you would need to exceed that amount by 250 watts to really need the light gray.

But, in the end it doesnt matter all that much really. Both will start the truck just fine.

Isn't the Light Gray a 31M? Does it fit in the 3rd gen without a different battery tray?
