Today was a great ski day and a crappy day to own my Tacoma.

At a trailhead I parked my vehicle and left on a ski hut trip. On return I saw a snow covered truck and thought nothing of it. Until I unlocked the doors. The headliner console was hanging by its harness. Well that was concerning, so I got out and looked for signs of a break in or some other reason for the finding.

Well, to my horror I found the truck was hit on the roof with a large chunk of ice from a nearby tree. See the photos for the damage.

My question as I wait for my Insurance company to call me back about the claim is, have any of you had damage this severe and had it repaired? Is it even repairable? The headliner is bowed in telling me that the internal bracing is damaged as well as the roof skin. The damage encompasses half of the roof!

    Note the headliner displacement.

All input is appreciated, this seems like a big deal to me. I am hoping it’s not as bad as i am fearing.

Once I sat on my roof for some senior pictures, and the roof bent inward pretty bad as well as the headliner. I just punched it hard from the inside and it went back to normal

That sucks! Grab a prinsu cab rack and call it tits. You could probably get most of it out by pressing and beating on it.

Looks fixable. New skin and fix the structural bracing. Probably not going to be cheap but that's what insurance is for. I know people that have rolled vehicles that caused roof damage similar to this and it fixed up fine

Metal has memory, a good dentless repair person might get a lot of it out. I have seen dentless repair guys fix worse.

If you don't want to deal with insurance take the headliner out, heat the metal up, and pop it out. Roof rack and done. I like heating it up, I feel like it gives me a better chance of paint adherence. The dent in the separate spot above the door cannot be reached with the headliner out, that'll have to be pulled from the outside.

If you plan on selling within 10 years or so I'd have it professionally fixed. Sorry about your luck.

At least on 2nd gens, there is about 0 bracing under the roof except on the sides (running with the doors)

This looks very repairable. Sure if you go through insurance the damage estimate will be substantial but that is not your concern. Or you could call a dentless repair guy and he will do wonders with it. The sharp crease close to the windshield would be an issue for him possibly but the others can be pushed/pulled out, even on the top of the door frame. The structural support piece may need to be replaced for safety purposes though.
If it was my truck I would go through insurance, pay the deductible and look forward to getting it back all restored and shiny. But I would keep the pictures for the next buyer so that you can show that the damage (which you need to declare) was only superficial.

I'm going to level with you and tell you something you might not want to hear. The roofs on these trucks are incredibly thin sheetmetal. It is actually quite easy to dent them. It's a decent sized dent but even if you get it popped or taken care of there is a high chance that it will dent again. Maybe not to that size.. but you get my point.
