I’m wondering people’s opinions or experiences with the OEM mud flaps. I have a 2018 TRD OR and have bought a set of four but I haven’t installed them yet. Do they look good? Do they work ok? Durable? Did I waste my money? Etc.

Some will say they're worthless, some will say they take them off, some will say they're good. It's a mixed bag. For moderate off road/road driving, they're good. But for more vigorous offroad, they might rip off depending on what you do

Anchovy, thanks for the comment. Any off roading I do will be moderate at most. I’m not looking to get crazy out in the trails.

I really like mine. Been all over the beaches this week, no issues. They do a great job of keeping the truck clean throughout the week before it's Saturday am bath and during rainy days. The sides of your truck will thank you.

Yeah this sums it up pretty good. They're decent for anything but a situation where you're coming down off or backing over a fair size rock/stump/ledge.. then you're going to tear them off. The good news is that the hardware seems to let go before there's any serious damage to the flap or wheel well. I've ripped 3 of mine off and just had to get new screws/pins and such.

I had them for 11 years on my 07 SR5. They kept the mud off my doors and fender bottoms. I drive almost daily on a dirt/gravel road. I have them on my 18 Sport for the same reason.

I've had these same questions. I can stare at pics of tacomas with mudflaps for hours and just can not decide if if I like them or not

I run them. They come stock on Canadian trucks.

    My experience:

-For FSR/gravel road travel and DD I have them on.

-If I know I will be doing any really technical off-road I take them off. You will break them off. I tore off both rears and one front before I figured this out. I have a new set and pack a 1/4” drive ratchet with a 10mm socket to remove them if needed.

For 90% of the off-roading I do, they are no problem, so I maybe take them off a couple times a year.

I replaced mine with Rally Armor. If they were the “floppy” versions like the prior gens, I’d have kept them. But too stiff. Even mild forest roads, I was scraping them. I sold them for $30 locally.

Exactly, I drive on paved roads. Any off roading I do is through a dirt parking lot to offload my kayak. No need for mud flaps. They just decrease aerodynamics, with a tiny hit on MPG in a truck whose little engine needs all the help it can get.

Aesthetically, it's up to you. Although, along with that black spoiler thingy in the front, I think they look not so good.

For off roading however, it seems to make sense, to me at least.

I took mine off and put them in a box. When I live somewhere where it actually rains (moving to WA next year) versus Dust Bowl (PHX) AZ, I'll put them back on...maybe.

In regards to aeroynamics, the mudflaps do didly shit to them since they are directly behind the tires. The tires make a large enough split in the air that it goes right around the flaps. Besides, the mudflaps help keep rocks and dirt off the doors and such

They are decent, they are rigid and not very flexible so it is possible to break them in certain situations

My main motivation for running them is to keep the gravel off the chassis and rocker panels as much as possible. I still get a lot of paint chips on the chassis, but not as bad as I imagine it would be without them.

Only the backs are OK. The front rub bad with any increase in tire size even with 2” lift. I prefer flat thin flexible ones like rally flaps
