Doing my 60k transmission drain and fill. I opened the fill plug no problem, then opened my “overflow bolt”. I’ve read that it’s supposed to slowly trickle out of said overflow but it came out like I just opened the drain bolt. Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes it’s at about 120 degrees, I haven’t added any yet. Haven’t even removed the drain plug yet, and it’s my first time even touching the tranny

I’m supposed to be checking the fluid with the overflow bolt completely removed right?

Was the engine running when you removed the check plug?

Was your engine running? If not, you're going to see a lot of fluid come out. You're supposed to check it with the engine on.

No I had the engine off when I removed it. I just finished draining the pan through the drain bolt. So when I pump new fluid in i start the truck, make sure I’m in the proper temp range, then with the engine running remove the overfill?

I drain the pan cold (or lukewarm) and measure how much came out. With all the plugs in but the fill plug, fill it back up with approximately the same volume that came out. Start the truck and while waiting for it to get to check temp, remove the check plug. Once at temp, it will either be draining out the check port or it won't. If it does, let it drain until it stops. If it doesn't, add more fluid until it starts to come out the check port. Button it all up and shut off the engine. Done.

Just finished everything up and it’s all good, thanks for the advice everyone. Finished the test drive and the truck is shifting great still.

You’ll be okay just get the right amount of fluid in there
