I was going to say, with your suspension I probably would remove it, i doubt it would be that noticeable on road and a little more help offroad.

Ill be removing mine on the zr2. People say its not bad, the fancy shocks make up for it

Side note, someone finally put all the zr2 parts on a canyon. Lower/upper arms, CVs, tie rod, spindle the leafs. But went with fox reservoirs for shocks and said it was just as good if not better than the zr2

Also good to see you’re getting those 285s on shortly

I am not convinced by this. Moose is a moose, you are fucked with or with out a sway bar.

I am going to take mine off and see what difference it makes for regular driving as it is my DD. From what I have read it will be not even noticeable. Yet will provide more off road goodness, which is what I am after this year. Every little bit of goodness I can squeeze out of it.

If I find there is a huge difference or to much body roll, I will just put it back on.

My Traxxas Slash 4x4 RC does not just flip over all of a sudden when turning if I take the sway bars off. Dont mock me for comparing my big truck with a toy, they are sweet ass little trucks. I learned so much about how shit works on big vehicles from my RC's :cookiemonster:

I dont picture me getting in a wreck that kills someone from my negligent driving. This is what would cause someone to look if you have a sway bar on or not. My Dad was police officer for 35 years and never once asked someone if they had their sway bars on or off.

I was thinking more of sudden evasive maneuvers.

... but then I also watched a cow do a tap dance on an Ohio tourist's hood on the straight away near Jocko Point. They had stopped to take pics of the cow and calf. She was camera shy.

    About that lol
So found out my wider stance with the extended shocks makes it a bitch to fit.
Going to need to beat the pinch weld and cut.

Yea true, I just see so many with out it, all the jeeps here in the local off road group have it removed. I am not that worried.

    :sawzall:

    Maybe some

    :welder:

I was scared to do it on my truck yet, so I went with the skinnies :cookiemonster:

Maybe in 5 years when I wear out the coopers I will grow a pair and step up to 285's :spy:

Yup, I lived at that little camping complex on the north east corner of the Little Sturgeon River... in the first little cottage. There were no guard rails and real deep ditches. Cars would launch off of 10' walls... so guard rails were installed. Now it's a Hot Wheels track with a suicide lane, so the cars bounce off the guard rails into the oncoming traffic... two for the price of one.... brilliant.

The other thing to consider with no sway bar is the guys saying it's fine, where are they?
In your case you live in the country more so, so might be similar .But a lot of those guys that say it's fine don't live in the city and drive on the highway and need to swerve to avoid some idiotic driver that was texting or something.

And your driving style can make a big difference

Honestly I think it comes down to your initial speed. We aren’t driving race cars here. But on the highway your going to be going atleast 100km/h. A quick turn to avoid someone could be bad news bears.

I have kept mine on. I have lost uptravel and down travel because of it but with the amount of driving I have to do to get to trails, I was okay with it. I have enough body roll with the weight I carry. Don’t need more because of no sway bar.

Yes you are 100% correct on both of these points. I do all city driving almost no highway. Driving style makes ALL the difference.

Sooo we took a long hard look at how to create a sway bar disconnect system. We came to the same conclusion as everyone else stated on TW. It is not feasible with the sway bar setup on this truck. I didnt feel like dropping the IFS skid to remove the sway bar after we got messing with. My mechanic buddy was pushing the same idea as you gents, it's there for safety leave it until you know it's holding you back then deal with it. So it is staying on for now.

We did get the chrome tip removed from the exhaust end I cut off :sawzall: and we re-attached it under the truck. At least got something done :cookiemonster:

    Lol it's been done before:
    Method 1: Need a good welder: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/sway-bar-quick-disconnect-the-day-is-here.289953/

    proxy_0d2c0fd60c7a760b187084820804a9c54d4aecf4.jpg

    proxy_23db47ad8f856df3d71d867271be3e0b66b387cc.jpg

Method 2: Can be achieved with mostly off-the-shelf hardware from McMaster, etc., but will take some "engineering" to be quiet.

Yea option 1 is what he had envisioned by the end of it. Just takes a new sway bar and some other goodies that takes a redesign of it and not just a mod to the current one.

Option 1 is done by cutting the existing sway bar and welding that tongue-and-groove joint to it. Why do you say it takes a new one?

Sway bars are sprung steel, not the same once you start heating, bending, cutting it.

    *Edit*

This is my understanding at least, am I wrong? I can get exactly what is pictured created for me, he said he can do it np. We looked at his race car and it has a very similar setup for sway bar connects and shit

Cutting is fine and there's no bending. Heat from welding will be very localized. Yes, the welds will be the weak point. However, the welds are in an area that do not see much deflection.

I had not seen that exact post linked me to before I went and saw my buddy. I sent him the link and he is saying its totally doable, since it is already laid out for us make it even easier.

I thought you could not just modify the sway bar like that.

When I will have the funds to actually execute it will be another story :anonymous:

Many other actually needed items are much ahead of this mod.:annoyed:

I've heard numerous arguments that a proper weld is actually stronger than before at least in tensile strength as it's hardened steel because of the heat.

Btw were you on st Clair by Midland heading west around 12 30ish? Think I saw your truck
