    Hey all,

Just threw on some OME Nitrocharger Sport Shocks and Struts this past weekend. I got the soft valved front struts, and the rear shocks, which I think only have a single valving option for the taco. Was wondering if anyone has experience with these, and was wondering if there is any sort of break in period for these, since I don’t think I’m feeling a large difference from the blue sport hitachis. I’m on stock coil springs, I’m not lifting for the time being so didn’t feel a need to. Feel like they’re a tiny bit stiff, but I’m also keeping in mind its a truck, and I’m also keeping in mind that they’re brand new, and may need to soften up a bit. I went for these because they are progressive, and I was going for more smaller bump compliance. Didn’t want to go for bilstein 4600s or 5100s since they are digressive, which would have resulted in a stiffer more uncomfortable ride i feel like. since they are digressive Didn’t like the sometimes jarring ride blue hitachi’s.

Tire pressure is 30psi on 265/70/17s for anyone asking

Anyone have any input? Im just hoping I didn’t make the wrong decision…

Also, there’s probably a chance i’m focusing on every little bump since i’m kind of telling myself to, since after all i did just put new shocks on…

    Appreciate the input,
    Brooks

Things may settle in a bit, but the only thing likely to change about the new ride will be the fact you'll get used to it.
There is no break in period, as such.

Nitrocharger heavy springs (886) have a spring rate of 600 lb per in. The stock springs are 700 lb per in. probably why its so stiff

Gotcha. Is 100 lbs difference enough to justify putting new coils in anyway? If it is then I may consider it down the road a little bit, especially since I just put these in and don’t feel like getting another alignment lol. The stock ones for a trd sport are 700? I thought someone people were saying they were 600 or 650?

i also don’t have any excessive weight on the front end to require heavier springs, no metal bumper, no winch or anything.

also I should mention that I wasn’t really plan on lifting it, don’t feel like messing with suspension geometry (ball joint angles, cv angles, etc,) unless I need it to fit bigger tires or something like that

I would look it up. There are some threads on it but I saw on some threads that some suspension company measured it.

If you offroad lift wont help you clear bigger tires when you flex

Wouldn't the lighter 600lb be softer than the 700lb stock springs, giving a softer ride?

Maybe in theory, but I’m not sure if the front end would start to sag even with no added weight from stock? Maybe that’s why they chose a higher spring rate? Also wouldn’t want to lower the front end either

OME 886 are not 600 lb/in otherwise the point about softer seems valid.

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p250/Old_Man_Emu_Lift_Coils_-__Various_Lift_Heights_Available_(PAIR).html

There isn’t a break-in period for shocks or really any other suspension component.

I’m not at all surprised you are not feeling much difference between the two sets of shocks during daily driving. I never have either. The stock shocks have plenty of capacity for daily driving. This is a lot of misinformation about what off-road shock upgrades do on this forum. Hook up a heavy trailer or take the truck bombing down a trail and you might notice more difference.

yes. the stock springs are shorter but higher spring rate. they are also paired with quite soft shocks so he will feel a stiffer ride with stiffer shocks (OME) and stiffer springs (stock)

preload determines the height along with spring rate

Nitro charger is a shock, not a spring.

Whatever man I meant to spring that ome pairs with the nitrocharger

Nitro is a fuel additive for racing and charger is a model of dodge car. nitrocharger is the shock

I have nitro chargers sport and they are on the stiffer side when going over small bumps. When bombing down FSRs or going over speed bumps, they become much softer. They are good shocks, but definitely not the best.

I’m happy so far and will run them till I can.

Dude asked about his shocks only. You are talking about OME springs. Interesting .

because it couldnt be a spring shock pairing issue?

It’s a lower spring rate because nitrocharger shock itself is stiffer. They are supposed to work together to see a difference in ride.
