I've been looking at these leaf packs and from what I've read here I'm still unsure which route I want to go.

I've read the medium duty will carry about 300 lbs before sagging from the advertised 2 inch lift, and the heavy duty will carry about 650 lbs.

That being said, I've also read you can just get the heavy duty and remove the 3rd leaf to make them the mediums.

I will always have 200 lbs on the bed. RTT, & rack at minimum. In the summers, water, camp gear, cooler, recovery, gas, etc. gets added back there in the following configurations

100% constant load (RTT & Rack): 200 Lbs
    Basic Camping Load: 350 Lbs
Camping and wheeling/long distance load: 500 lbs

Also noteworthy: I'm also running steel sliders and 3 steel skids. With plans for bumpers, winch, etc.

I'm leaning towards the heavy duty ones since at full load I'll be pretty close to the max it will take, but if I unload everything for the winters and only have the 200 lbs on there, will I end up with a crazy high rear lift (rake)? Or will it always sit at the 2 inch lift and always be there until I put more than the 650 lbs load?

get the HD's and install them with all the leafs. Ill bet you leave the 3rd leaf in (thats the leaf you take out to be a medium)

With only the tent on though, will these things ride crazy high? Or do they always sit at the advertised 2 inches until you load it up with over 600 lbs?

I run Dakar HD with the AAL. I daily drive with bedrack, RTT, fridge, full skids/sliders/bumpers, and I have 35s.

added camping weight is around 100lbs. I think im at 3" in the rear

Hrmmm...seems pretty consistent with the advertised info. I think I read its something around 2.75 on the 2nd gen's and 2 on the 3rd.

I think the AAL adds something like 66% weight capacity and less than 1/2" of actual height? I forgot now its been so long

Oh you're right. I missed the fact that you did HD's with an additional AAL.

Get the HD's or get a custom pack from deaver.

I had HD Dakars and with a topper, HC swing out and a RTT (Empty bed) they were sitting flat or slightly negative arch.

I got Deaver stage III U402's now

Get the dakar heavy, I don't usually carry around much weight, have armor from the engine back, sliders - but when I do go drive long distances for whitewater trips I am totally loaded down with the bed full of gear and the canopy rack full. I also will occasionally transport bags of cement and gravel... I upgraded the suspension all around with 6112s 6/5 and 650 lb coils in the front and 5160s in back. I don't regret the dakar heavy at all and would be most likely underwhelmed with the mediums. Go heavy and don't look back.

Im pretty sure my are sitting flat, but they still flex when called for. And this is my 2nd set. They hold some weight.

Its hard for someone coming into the "game" of modding, to spend the $ for Deavers, so I get the appeal of the Dakars and AAL.

    100% get the HD’s.

I got the mediums and almost immediately they were flat. Just put in the AAL and the ride is no different, but I’m no longer sagging in the rear.

I’m not close to the “600lb constant load”

Follow the advice you’ve received so far and get the HD’s and never look back.

No doubt. But if you want them to hold some weight, you'll be looking to upgrade. Buy once, cry once.

HC swing out, topper and a RTT is somewhere around 600 at my best guess.

glad I found this thread. I'm debating between HD and Med as well, with a 200lb cap and variable cargo weight of tools or supplies. To all recommending the HDs...do they ride rough when unloaded with the higher spring rate?

Fwiw, some other threads said they ride surprisingly good even with little or no weight on them, but I will let those who actually have them chime in to confirm
