So I have bilstein 5100 lift w/ AAL and the shop I took it to said that the coils they would install were OME. Being uneducated on the different coils I believe they installed an 887 lift and im running 285/70/17 and there is some rubbing and some rake. Should I upgrade and get the 886 or the 888 coils?

255's - no rubbing and no cutting
265's - no rubbing and no cutting
    285's - rubbing and cutting
305's+ - all the rubbing and all the cutting

i dont think coils are gonna help you not rub.

you need to trim/cut with that tire

This has been discussed a lot recently. I had a 3/4" sag with 888's. It seems that the OE coils for 3rd gens are 712lb. 888's & 887's are 590lb, 886's are 660. If I were to do my suspension again with the info I have now, I'd do 886's. No one makes a spring specifically for 3rd gens, it's all 2nd gen stuff but the 3rd gen is more front heavy due to some added tech and comfort.

    • OME 883: 375mm in height, 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 884: 390mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 885: 395mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 886: 402mm in height 660 pound spring rate
    • OME 887: 400mm in height 590 pound spring rate
    • OME 888: 405 mm in height 590 pound spring rate

So it’s worth doing the 886 rather than 888? I feel like the 886 would give it a rougher ride quality

I would dare to say Eibach does. Their spring is 700lbs. Gives 2" of lift on bilstein 5100 set at the bottom notch and their own coils set at the bottom will also give two inches.

If it helps I had the 888 (590#) coils and they were WAY F***in stiffer than my Eibach 700# coils. But that was also because I had OME shocks which are tuned for overlanders. I now run ADS. Wish I had bought Bilstein at the time I bought my OME. Get the 660#, you will be happier because your truck won’t sag

Valving makes for 90% of a stiff ride, not coils.

I installed the same lift on my truck. It sits level. But that’s a lot of tire for a 2” lift man.

edit: with 887s I’m level. I’d probably ask them exactly what coils you got if it’s raked out.

I’m not a tire/lift expert on these trucks. But I have 255/85/16 which aren’t as wide as yours and they’re as close is I’d wanna get to the upper control arm. I’m guessing that’s where you’re rubbing?

Hi there! I thought I would share my opinion with you as I went through these same decisions about a year ago. I chose the bilstein 5100 with the ome 888. As someone already pointed out the pound spring rate on the 888 is 590. I didn't know this was meant for 2nd gen and I lost about an inch of lift. I would choose the 886 due to the higher pound spring rate of 886. I also rubbed with 285/7017 before the lift even sagged with the CMC as well. I now run 275/70/17. It's not much smaller but for my truck that is the difference between rubbing and not rubbing when on the trails.

Looking back I would definitely pick a nice suspension set up then match the tires that will pair well to the suspension. Not pick the tires you want then try to get your suspension to fit your tires. That can be a giant headache.

Not saying I'm right that's just my 2 cents on this...

Guess that extra 1.2 inches width makes a big difference. Sucks dude, shop steered you wrong on that one.
