i've had many 22re's with 5 speeds. 2 1985 4runners which never got over 22mpg, stock. 1 1986 4runner which also got around 20 mpg. 1 1985 extra cab pickup 2wd turbo 5 speed which got 25 mpg. 1 1980 toyota pu 4wd 22r 4speed which gets about 15-19 mpg. the 1980 will be getting a 3rz and 5 speed swap so we'll see how much mpg the taco motor gives in a 1980. it's the air drag from height and power loss from the transfercase that kills mpg.

Sad Day. After buying my 2012 I finally got around to cleaning/fixing up the 1994 and selling it. Posted on Craigslist and within a week it was sold for my asking price. The old truck was in good shape and only had 158,000 miles.

Sold my 2010 due to not driving it often enough and it was too new to take off road. Picked up this one today. 1990 Toyota 4x4. 255k on the truck. 60k on the engine and trans. Probably going to crank up the torsions this weekend and put in an AAL. Right now it has 31x10.5's on it. Not sure if I'm going to replace or hang onto them for a while. They're brand new.

I'd hang on to em. You'd be surprised how capable that this is stock ha. Enjoy em and mod the others things while you still have new tires, then upgrade when you need to.

Don't crank those t-bars too far!

Good call ditching the second gen for a real Pickup :)

Yeah I've done a LOT of moderate to difficult trails with entirely stock suspension, wheels, and 31s

I have OME shocks and 31.7" tires but am still sketchy about no skids ha I've dragged belly a couple times and kind of cringed. Sliders should be on shortly, but these tires aren't wearing out any time soon. May be a couple years before the 33.4s go one :D

PVC tank/15 & 16" horns, quick-d/c air chuck in bed cubby 24" LED light Bar (mounted to skidplate)A Headlights, foglights interior lights and backup lights all converted to LED (HUGE difference)
Just traded my '94 4x4 shorty. 173,000 miles. 26mm torsion bars, 2" rear blocks, rancho 9000 shocks, ARB lockers, front & rear, Ramsey 8000 lb winch, Smittybilt bumpers & nerf bars, tool box in the bed, on-board air (& horns) and BFG A/T 32x11.50 tires. And a kickass stereo. All work was done by me.

Blown head gasket, cracked radiator, bad p/s. Pump, leaky tranny & main seal. B.E.R. , sadly. Broke my heart to lose the faithful old beast, but I just couldn't justify dropping $4000+ in an 18 year old truck...

Oooh I love this thread. I'll have to go take a picture of the 83 tomorrow in the day light. :D Its in my siggie but my sig is a pretty bad photo.
Its got a cracked block though unfortunately. It runs awesomely..you just have to dump oil in it and its not worth it.
