Will leaving the tailgate open all the time stretch out that rubber damper thing? I have no idea how that thing works.

I'd just remove it if you need long term open. What are your plans?

Just a long load of lumber, its 100% ok.

I leave it open when I work. I generally find myself loading and unloading crap all the time, and the height of the open tail gate as a prefect work table.

I leave mine open quite often, especially when going on toll roads.

on my second gen, when I would drive with my tailgate down on gravel roads with my dirtbike in the bed, I did get some rock chips on the tailgate.

There was a guy on Live PD that had a remote to slide a cover down to hide his plate when he came to a toll and the cops took him to jail and gave him a $2200.00 fine .

I use take a snowmobile in the bed of the tundra, and tow 2 sleds in an enclosed 2 place trailer 450-500 miles in quebec for several years with the truck with the tailgate down. Never had an issue with the back plate or rock chips in the paint. The truck sure needed a bath after getting back home.

Roads don’t build themselves. Complain about the fee structure if you want, but you’re being the asshole in the group assignment that lets everyone else do the work and then insists that his name be on the project (and then brags about it).

Since 2005 the majority of toll roads are owned by private corporations in foreign countries financed by tax exempt bonds...the consequences of which you will never comprehend.

Sorry, you’re getting the normal BS because no one here has any idea how it works or whether it wears out.

The truck is designed to work with the tailgate down. Rule of thumb for me on non-dampened tailgates was to be fine with leaving it down unless 1. it’s not loaded AND 2. you’ll be bouncing around a lot and having it flip up and down. Oh, and MPGs are slightly better with it up.

The bushing that does the dampening is like $25 to replace. It’s a consumable. I wouldn’t sweat that cost.

The fine is up to $1000 in some state if you get caught plus a day wasted in court. I don’t know if you noticed but there is always a cop around as well:spy:. Not so bright idea after all.
