OK to cut off the front lower crossmember?

who has done it? any issues with doing so?

We are designing a baja style bumper and would like to eliminate this crossmember. We will add a skid to go from our new bumper down to cover the sway bar...

This is a somewhat common modification. You might take a peek at Coastal's Extreme Clearance front bumper.

great thanks. That is a good looking bumper, similar lines to what we are going to try to build, but ours will be mostly tube.

I figured as much, and honestly thought they had a better view of their crossmember on the site but that's not the case. Either way, you get the idea: people do it.

 

If it’s an automatic transmission with the trans cooler, the lines run across that crossmember. What I did for a friend was reroute the trans cooler lines up the passenger side and into the grille area.

They currently feed from the passenger side, cut over to the drivers side and then jump up into the grille area.
