Just pulled the hose off my PCV valve to check on it and its full of oil, oil dripping down it and out of the hose. Its a brand new valve, the old one was a little oily too. Is that normal / what does this indicate?

I actually just replaced mine yesterday and noticed the same thing. As long as you're not using oil between changes then you should be fine. Some people install a catch can if they're worried about the amount of oil going into the intake.

tmross, I need to replace my PCV but I have not been able to successfully find a diagram of where it is located. Do you mind posting a pic of where it is located? I have almost the same model 2004 2.4l 2wd Xtracab. Thank you much

Rear of the valve cover near the firewall. You’ll see a hose about 1 inch in diameter coming off it, held on with a spring clamp

Oil in the PCV is normal.

Oil mist, atomized, is carried out of the hot crankcase. The oil mist will condense when it hits the cooler temperature outside of the c'case. This is why the hose leads back to the engine intake, so the oil can be burned.

Although, on a 2002, this could indicate the piston rings are worn allowing excessive blow-by.
What is your oil consumption between oil changes?
    Mileage?

I have about 185k miles. Oil consumption varies. Anywhere from a quart a month to nothing needing to be added. Almost two months ago I went from GA to MI and back with no issue and oil was normal. Then about two weeks later my oil was almost on empty. I changed PCV about two weeks ago and so far so good. Fingers crossed.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone clean their PCV instead of buying a new one. For less than $4 I bought a new one from Rock Auto.

Careful with those pcv's on the 2001 - 2004 models....
there's a number who over torque that soft aluminum ....and heard that dreaded POP...
evidently that cover is a little thin there.....

For us older taco heads.....that $3 doorman grommet fails/turns to shit....and then you've got a rubber party on top your valves......so I dig it out and replace it about 18mo....
You look at it at the top of the engine and it looks fine....but over time and heat at some point....MAJOR VACCUM LEAK going on there......because there's no bottom on it anymore.....valve happy hour.....

and for those real oily ones...leaky internals....I'd grommet every 12mo....

Wish they made silicone ones....someone finds em, I'll buy....dont care what it costs

I don't understand. What did I delete? All I recall doing is posting some pics and adding some text.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculating system and I initially thought you did it, I stand to be corrected.
