How many quarts are everyone puttin in their 3.4 v6 4x4 tacoma engine WITH oil filter change. Mine takes a little over 5.5 quarts. What does everyone else use? It says on the fill cap SAE - 5w-30 oil. Been using 5w30 and engine been running fine, a friend of mine uses 10w30. Is there a difference or better performance in using the 10w30?? What does everyone else use?

Btw, I live in Hawaii, so no cold temperatures, but it does get hot during the day.

Brand by brand. I use mobile one and I've read their 5-30 tends to break down much faster so I typically only use it in the cold months and 10-30 the rest of the year.

I've never used anything but full synthetic but from what I understand it's more resistant to break down. You can run much longer intervals before oil changes.

A lot of people swear by royal purple.

I always used 6 quarts in my 3.4. Extra .4 quarts won't hurt it. I also used 0w-40. 0w has the best cold flow and it gets hot in fl so I use a bit thicker 40w oil

thanks guys! Going today to Walmart, usually cheaper than Orielly's or Napa, here in Hawaii. Damn synthetic stuff pretty pricey though here, about $50 for a 5 qrt. bottle!

There are plenty of high mileage Tacomas that have run conventional oil their entire lives. The Tacoma is not picky about oil. Get whatever you want.

Not to be rude to anyone but definitely don't use 0-40. If you think that's a good idea I encourage you to read up on the function of motor oil. 5-30 is the specification.

I use 5.5 quarts after changing the filter. Castrol 5w-30 and it still runs like new. The most important thing is to change the oil on time, and put a quality filter on it.(OEM is usually the best).

Full Syn. Mobil 1 w/ Mobil 1 filter 5w30. Manual says 10w30 or 5w30, 5w30 covers a broader temp range.

I don't have an OEM filter but the Fram High mileage filter seems to do the job fine.

No, just the Mobil synthetic and Royal Purple are super expensive. Though I went today and picked up the Mobil for $35 on sale!
