First time using Blackstone Labs to test my oil. First time having oil tested ever, actually. I'd say the $38 for the better test over $28 for the basic test was money well spent. I plan to send them another sample with 8,000 miles on the oil instead of only 4,750.

Thoughts on having oil tested? I'm thinking it's an inexpensive way to see how the engine is doing internally, especially before spending any large amount of money on either fun mods, or necessary repair work.

Looks solid. Mobil 1 continues to impress me. There is no better bang for the buck than the jug of Mobil 1 from Wally world. And Toyota engines are so easy on oil. It's like the perfect combo of engine and oil.
In the properties section you see TBN which is the additive package, what makes Mobil1 Mobil1. You still had tons left so it doesn't surprise they recommended that big OCI.

My thoughts exactly on it being a very harmonious fit between oil and engine.

One thing I definitely specified on the oil slip I filled out for Blackstone was that my oil was advanced synthetic Mobil 1. I don't believe they noted that on my report anywhere. It merely says "Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W/30" .....and on that note, I plan to change every 8,000 instead go going the advertised 15,000 with this oil. Also worth noting this is my first new oil while also using an extended oil filter. Mobil 1 M1-209A I believe it was.

...I hope they were clear on the fact it was and will continue to be synthetic oil. I'm sure they were but I'd still like it specified on the report.

Also I've been getting solid deals at autozone for a 5 quart jug of the oil I use and also a free mobil 1 oil filter for $29.99 That's basically a free filter and a great price on the oil in my opinion. Not sure what Walmart charges though.

Great report! I'm planning on sending them a sample at my next oil change, never done it before. Also running mobile 1 from Walmart, planning on changing at 5k. What's the difference between the basic and better test?

5 quart you mean? It's like 25.99 at Walmart I think

The basic test does not include the TBN portion of the test, which as I understand is a general look at how much "life" is left in your oil. It's ten bucks more so I went for it.

Ah I'll for sure do that then. I mainly wanna do it to get a feel for the health of my engine, but longer oil changes are always nice too

I have used Blackstone for testing the last four changes. I use the Mobil1 Extended 15,000 mile stuff in my 2.7L four-banger and pushed the OCI to 18,000 miles and the TBN was still 1.1 so don't be afraid to go the 15,000 they guarantee it for. Synthetic lubricants are not "used up" until the active ingredient is gone.

Did you add any oil in between changes?

Out of curiosity. Has anyone NOT gotten good news from an oil analysis?

I think I know what you're getting at. When I was helping out a guy who owns an oil analysis company, I tested and analyzed many samples that had 'bad news' for the customer. 9 out of 10 times the engine oil samples looked really good. And the Toyota engines I tested samples from all looked excellent. There were a few samples of gear oil I remember testing that had high bearing metal count ppm and high water as content well. It was an awesome learning experience. But I'm nerdy that way.

Well, you've got to remember the people who are getting their oil analyzed are usually enthusiasts who keep their vehicles well maintained. Whos going to spend the $30 to have their beater's oil analyzed when thats the cost of 4 oil changes? - Getting my oil tested every change doesnt make sense to me when adhering to routine oil change schedules. If I had a vehicle which was displaying symptoms (Coolant loss or noise), was very expensive or the maintenance/ oil changes were very expensive then I would utilize the service.

I always get a kick out of the guys with brand new cars who get their first oil change done then get alarmed at all the Fuel/ Moly/ wear metals in the oil.

To answer your question, Yes I have.

I've actually been thinking of doing that just for kicks, I have a POS beater car that I went like 15k on a non synthetic oil change, got it so hot I've seized it twice, kinda want to send black stone a sample just for laughs

    Dear mr. Jeffries,
In regard to your latest labwork it appears your wife has an std, your daughter is pregnant and your dog is going to die soon. In addition if you don't stop jerking off your tennis elbow will never improve...
