Changed my wheel bearing without issue. Went to do the spark plugs and the first plug(Passenger front) has fresh oil on the outside of the coil-not much, just enought to notice. I can look down the hole and see some oil lining the hole. Pull the spark plug and it has a few drops on the white part of the plug. Looks like a fresh/new leak.
Only this one plug had some oil. The others were dry.

i changed my oil last night and used a new FRAM Ultra protection oil filter. Could this extra filtering caused a back pressure and caused a gasket to leak?

Which gasket is leaking? Valve cover?

    2005 4.0L 145K miles.

    Thanks,

    Bruce

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is one of the worst POS filters available.
It certainly has no extra filtering... Fram has less filtration media than anyone else.

But the filter is right after the oil pump... even if the filter were restrictive, it would not put more pressure on the valve cover area.

Most likely, some splashed there either from the old filter being removed or from the fresh oil being added.

No idea if it's common, but that's really the only thing it could be. I've seen it lots of other vehicles.

Ive been using FRAM TG filters without an issue until now-145K miles. Have you changed your spark plugs? No way anything splashed inside a sealed coil pack on the opposite side of the engine.

Ya... hundreds of thousands of people and Jiffy Lubes use Fram-made filters (Fram, Pennzoil, and Microguard are all Fram-made OTC brands).

    That doesn't make them good.
Their bypass valves leak (unfiltered oil passing back into the engine)
Their anti-drainback valves leak (less oil available for cold starts on your 4.0)
Their filtration media is glued to cardboard endplates... and unfolded, they use half the filter media of other manufacturers.

Seriously... they are cheaply manufactured junk.

You can buy OEM Toyota filters, which is one of the better filters available, for under $90 shipped for 20 filters from Titus-Will Toyota.
    That's about $4 per filter.

On the oil on the plug, it may very well be a leak from the spark plug tube. Unless it's excessive, I wouldn't worry about it. I always had SOME oil in the tubes on my Tundra, Wife's Echo, and Rav4, but never more than a very small amount.

Regardless of crappy filter, Mr spoon is correct. Oil there can only be due to valve cover leak.:D

long time reader first time poster:

driving about an hour out of Tahoe and my 05, 2.7 manual started wagging its shift knob like a happy dog. The check engine light started flashing at me. Luckily I was pretty close to an oreilleys. Very knowledgeable guy helped me see I had an cylinder four misfire. So I pull the coil pack and it’s caked in oil. Replace it, start it back up and she’s still wobblin. Look at the tranny mount. Cracked...

Mount on the way. But I was thinking due to the oil filled cylinder it cause too much torque to make the mount break.. I’ll be ordering everything to replace my valve cover in the morning.

December in Lake Tahoe. 2019. Wish me luck

Sorry, but if the cylinder was filled with oil the engine would be hydro locked and it would not run and would probably need a rebuild due to the piston and rod damage.

It is just a small valve cover leak from the spark plug tube seal area. Easy as pie to replace.
