i have a 2.7l 3rzfe with a manual transmission and while I'm driving down the road the oil light will be flickering and as i put it in neutral the rpms just drop to zero and the truck will shut down. the radio and lights will continue to work but power steering and engine will just turn off. i did notice some squeaking coming from the belt area up front but can't pinpoint where its coming from and theres no smoke so i don't think anything has seized up yet. Any idea of whats going on or where to start troubleshooting would be much appreciated, thanks.

Get yourself a code reader, or take it to an autozone type place and they'll run your code.

If your idiot light is coming on, there's a code in there. Start with that.

Also, when was the last time you checked the oil, or did any other sort of maintenance?

Oil light flickering sounds like you ran it out of oil and seized motor. Does it still turn over? Check the oil level.

Probably low oil, or the oil pump failed. Hope you didn't ruin your engine by trying to keep it running.

yes the oils full i had just changed it before the problem started. the only code that has come up is for the 02 sensors. I'm thinking at this point its the pump, the pick up screen from the oilman or just some faulty sensor.

If the engine RPMs are too low, it's possible the light is simply flickering due to low pressure due to engine speed.

Since it stalls at idle I'd look at idle speeds or a significant load on the engine at idle that overcomes the idle control.

I would also look to make sure you didn't knock off any connections or vacuum hoses as it started doing it right after you changed the oil.

If you didn't already, recheck the oil dipstick. Make sure your oil drain plug and oil filter are not leaking.

After re reading this thread not sure just what I did.

I wonder if this is not an electrical problem rather then oil pressure related problem.

When engines lose oil pressure they do tend to be very loud before coming to a stop.
