    Hi All,

I’m looking for some advice here. I have 06 Toyota Tacoma 4X4. With 232000 km.
I’ve noticed leaking in a few spots on the truck.
One major spot that has slowly built up is around the power steering pump. I’m wondering if this the dreaded timing chain cover leak or it is just the timing cover tensioner square cover. I have attached pictures of the area I’m talking about. I have also attached images of the other leak I see below the vehicle it looks as though it is leaking at the oil pan gasket. If anyone would be able to verify the leak where power steering is that would be greatly appreciated.

I have both of those spots on my 2006 TRD OR. Clean it up and see how long it takes to come back. Eventually I might have to address it but for now my oil level seems stable and it doesn't drip. Hope that's some peace of mind for you. Good luck.

    Timing cover and oil pan.

Neither are dire, I'd probably just wash it and leave it until it drips.

Something I regularly see is forgetting about gravity. If the oil pan AT THE BOTTOM of the engine is wet, it doesn’t always mean it’s leaking. There could possibly be a leak somewhere else, like the timing chain cover, valve cover, oil pressure sensor, etc… then there’s a tiny trickle from there down, the oil collects along the oil pan gasket and drain plug. Start at the top, work your way down.

A good example, I’ll recommend replacing the leaking oil pressure sensor, declined. The next guy talks them into doing the oil pan gasket. It comes back for leaking oil. This is when it becomes dicey. The customer could argue it was leaking oil, you guys fixed it, and it’s still leaking. I could argue you were told the oil pressure sensor was leaking, instead of fixing it you decided to do the more expensive oil pan gasket replacement. They could argue why wasn’t I reminded the oil pressure sensor is leaking by the other guy. I could say because he’s stupid, but don’t. At that point, if they’re being a di*k, I’ll stick to my story, you were informed and declined the cheaper repair, then approved the more expensive repair. If they’re being civil, I’ll get my boss involved to see about getting them a discount on the oil pan gasket job. It was wet and was possibly leaking but I don’t know for certain.

search timing cover leak, they leak near/at/by the power steering pump, unbolt pump, push to the side, pressure wash/brake clean area run a bead of rtv (permatex "right Stuff" along the timing cover seam, install PS pump, call it a day.....or remove timing cover and reseal a 1hr job vs a 10 hr job
