Decide to change my air filter and found oil at the bottom of my air box so I dismantled to the throttle body and clearly oil is in there too. Is that normal? I fairly recently paid to have the pcv valve replaced and throttle body cleaned. Its burnin oil pretty bad and kinda smells like theres gas in the oil when I change it. Ideas?

Yeah I'd look at the PCV valve as a start. That doesn't look good.

overfilled motor oil? this is the only I can think of where it would get oil in the throttle body.

That's some serious blowby in the engine. Maybe a cheap pcv valve? Add an oil catch can as mention or plug the nipple at throttle body and vent pcv to atmosphere?

How much oil is it burning? Like how much do you add between oil changes and at what mileage do you do the oil changes? Oil smelling heavily like gas and burning lots of oil, how's the compression? Can you do a compression test and let us know the numbers? Pull the spark plugs and take pics and post them up. Don't confuse the order they're in currently, all this will help us help you the best we can

All the above is good advice, get a new PCV valve from Toyota, hell you can get a bad one of anything, clean it up,(the throttle Body) top off the oil, and start monitoring miles to one Qt. used
Just for the record how many miles on this truck now, have you always owned this truck, is this something new or are you just now seeing it ?

Do you have the correct dip stick? Only put in what the manual say's. Hopefully you are not over filling it. :fingerscrossed:

lots here to comment on but the most important is how much oil consumption is there. This is dependant on mileage on the motor and this leads to other problems like damaging the catlytic convertor(s). This could get into $$$$ pretty quick.

Even with blow by I wouldn't expect to see that much oil in the intake or throttle body. PCV would be my first bet as well. If you paid to have it replaced somewhere other than a dealer than chances are its not an OEM part. The aftermarket PCV valves are known to be hit or miss, so I would start with that.

So, 460-390 is 150K miles.... and how many miles did the used donor engine have? I normally see this level of blowby on a 200K steel block that sat a while. Ie a 351 windsor from 1988 with 200k miles - I'd expect the rings dried out at one point, or the rings were burned by running overly rich.

    Guys,

This is normal. That is what the PVC does, it's not blow by. If you want to have this be cleaner get a catch can.

Your math is off but I get ya. 390-460 is 70. Im guessing the swap was at 50 or higher so best case 120 prob closer to 150

So Im almost positive my passanger head gasket is blown. Pulled the plugs today and damn, what a mess. plugs 1,3,5 were drenched in oil but #5 was caked with old coolant too.
