    Hi,
I am new here, and I am sure I just missed it somehow, but I have spent 2 hours on TW forums looking for a recommendation for an oil filter wrench. I really did try not to be the new guy who is too lazy to use the search function and did not see the 876 posts on the topic. I bought a case of genuine filters (90915-yzzd3). Amazon shows a few wrenches but mentions 64mm. My OEM filters seem to be about 72mm across the flats, certainly not 64mm.
I don't mind paying for a good quality tool. Could anyone recommend one for me, or at least point me to the right size?
    Thanks,
    Ian

Hi Ian, you shouldn't need an oil filter wrench to change the filter. It should go on and come off by hand. If its stuck thats when I usually shove large screwdriver through it and get it off that way.

Just use a standard strap wrench, no need to get a specific filter socket. It's right on top of the engine and shouldn't be too tight anyway.

Been using a 74mm 14 flute for mine w/ YZZD3 filters without issue, just don't overtighten them. If existing filter is on too tight, I'd recommend filter pliers before the screwdriver method.

To be fair I only used the screwdriver method the first time I changed it. Sense then it goes on and off by hand.

Large channel lock pliers will work as well.

Aye not trying to throw shade, I'm just deeply risk-averse on my daily driver and the thought of the screwdriver just ripping the filter in half without it budging gives me anxiety

Thanks guys. I just remembered I actually own a strap wrench. You know how some not too-close relative gets you Christmas gift of some Craftsman thing because someone said you like tools? I have never used it, but I found it. Thanks a lot. I appreciate the help.

Don't forget to either run a hose off the filter drain down to the bottom or put something under it to catch the oil that drains from the filter, I use a quart oil jug cut in half but pretty much anything that will fit down there will work.

An empty 20 oz. coke bottle fits perfectly under the filter drain nipple. If you put the nipple into the opening the bottle sits on the hoses below and is secure so you can do other things while the oil drains into the bottle
